D1KECI UK CITATION AWARDS—Three Director Citation Awards
were presented to three seniors who had displayed outstanding leadership
and assistance during the past school year. Citations were presented to

Ihe Levelland High School
Lobo Band concluded its successful
year with a banquet last Friday
during which jokes, laughter,
memories and tears all played a
role.
Early in the banquet, band
dnrviur Rodney Parker got
"Parker's Revenge" tor various
pranks executed at his expense
during the year
He had the audience rolling as
he told them joke after joke at the
expense of various individuals or
sections of the band.
He showed them a video he had
put together which reviewed the
past season and featured the 23
graduating seniors with phottjs of
them today and as they were as
children
The video resulted in tears
flowing freely.
A total of 46 awards were
presented dunng the banquet.
Each was presented with a
narrative of the person’s strengths
and their commitment to the band.
Three director citation awards
were presented. Recipients were
Brad McGann, who served in the
loading crew for several years;Billy
Porter, who served as president of
the band, and Efren Torrez, who
was cited for always being willing
to lend not only himself, but his
pickup, to be used to haul things
around town.
Marching awards were
presented to Mehsa Miller who was
cited for an outstanding job in the
flag corp, and Jason Pace who was
cited as the most improved person
over the five year program.
TOP LEVELLAND BAND AWARDS-Several band awards were
presented dunng the Levelland Lobo Band's annual banquet and dance.
Director Rodney Parker presented the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award to
Amy DeNitto, the Anon Award for Outstanding Musical Achievement to
Chnsty Hartin and the John Philip Sousa Outstanding Bandsman Award

Head Family Funeral Home Chapel
Alvino Cortez of Littlefield offici-
ated.
Prayer service was held on
Tuesday, May 19.
Burial followed in the City of
Levelland Cemetery um -r the di-
rection of Head Family Funeral
Home.
He died Monday, May 18, at
Lubbock University Medical Cen-
ter.
He was born on Sept. 15, 1943
in Durango. Mexico. He married
Juana Perez on June 17, 1979 in
Levelland.
He came to Texas in 1977. He
moved to Levelland in 1978 and
worked for L\ nn O’Connor at Cor-
rosion Control. Inc. He was a mem-
ber of the Apostolic Church.
He was preceded in death by a
son, Gabriel Beltran.
Beltran is survived by his wife,
Juana Beltran of Levelland; four
sons, Jorge, Porifiro, Juan Jesus,
and Justin of Levelland; one daugh-
ter, Crystal of Levelland; two sis-
ters, Rosaria and Francisca Beltran
of Mexico; five brothers, Juan,
Pablo, Isidoro, Gusavio. all of Mex-
ico and Antonio of California; five
sons, Juan Manuel Beltran of Cali-
fornia, Porifiro Beltran II, Rupus
Beltran, Adolfo Beltran, Luis
Beltran all of Mexico, two daugh-
ters, Maria Beltran and Marisa de
Jesus Beltran; and numerous grand-
children.

Billy Porter, Esther Allen, Joseph
Perez, Travis Petty, Michael Rust
and Lon Stanley.
The final three awards went to
outstanding seniors who were
credited not only for their musical
skills, but for their leadership. The
Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was
presented to Amy DeNitto. The
Arion Award for Outstanding
Musical Achievement went to
Christy Hartin. The John Phillip
Sousa Outstanding Bandsman
Award was presented to Amanda
Parker.
Following the banquet, band
members were treated to a dance
utilizing a D.J. service out of
Lubbock.
SPECIAL RECOGNITION—The Lfvelland Lobo Band included 23 seniors who were recognized during the
annual band banquet last Friday. Each was presented a plaque in appreciation of their efforts in the band. The

OUT STANDING PERFORMERS—Outstanding concert and symphonic
band members were recognized at last week’s annual band banquet. Jason
Tezeno was recognized as the most improved student in the concert band.
Lauren Watkins was recognized as the outstanding woodwind in the
symphonic band while Mary Kay Riggs was named the outstanding
percussionist in the concert band Kendra Collins was named the most
improved musician in the symphonic band and Chris Brown was named
the outstanding Brass in the symphonic band. Not shown are Ana Machias
