Gun control? The right to bear

in our Constitutuion by our
forefathers but the right has been
severely abused in recent years
Perhaps tougher laws against
those who use firearms while com

While our prayers are given for ,

where, we hear everyday of the
murders of government officials
abroad, we quickly realized that
despite all the freedoms our nation
has to offer, we are not free from
the horrors caused by individuals
who do not respect the freedoms of
others......

How was Hinckley able to mingle
with the press and therefore get six
shots off before being apprehend
ed? Attending President Carter’s
address at the Abilene Municipal
Airport last fall reminded me of
just how easy it is for someone to
take a shot at the nation's top ex
ecutive. Despite all precautions,
the president ventures into a high
degree of risk whenever he ap-
pears in public. That is an added
cost to the price tag of the job
After viewing the films, slow mo

one thing for a Trident billion

with faulty toothpicks
I have a box here in which
every other one of them
breaks at the first attempt tb
use it. This lack of quality con-

straw.
I started to say it'sthe straw
that broke the camel’s back

figure of speech Every camel
I've seen looked like it already
had its back broken.
You know what's going id

demand for import quotas on

Meanwhile there are other
troublesome matters facing
the country I read just last
night that a Hollywood movie
queen is demanding more
money because the $30,000 d

How many times have we heard
the ominous predictions concern
ing presidents elected in years en-
ding in zero?
Trie tragic events surrounding
the deaths of Lincoln, Garfield,
, Wilson, Roosevelt and
Kennedy became all too vivid Mon
day when television and radio
broadcasts were in
the shocking rep _
assassination attempt on President
Reagan's life.
Once again the American public
waa reminded of the troubled time^
that have befallen the nation in the with the
past 20 years. Following the
shooting of President Kennedy in
Dallas in 1063, the eyes of the coun
try watched in horror as
Democratic presidential candidate
Bobby Kennedy was killed in Los
Angeles, civil rights leader Martin
Luther King gunned down in Mem
Kis and George Wallace crippled
an assassin's bullet in
Nfaryland.
President Gerald Ford was for
tunale to have survived two at-
tempted shootings in California
The question, of course, is
"why?** Is it the publicity, per-
sonal vengance, the efforts of a
large organization or foreign coun-
try, insanity or. perhaps, fate?
