We had a high per cent of our
pupils to attend Sunday School
and church Sunday. Maybe the
sun helped us to attain such a<
good attendance: We hope we
can keep this record up and
those who did not go will begin
on the next Sunday.
Friday, the first period after
lunch, the Sophomore class gave
their version of the popular tele-
vision show, “What’s my Line.”
The show was sponsored by
“Yoddy Albright’s Thousand In
One Store.” As our commercial
we had a wedding ceremony.
The bride was played by Patsy
Pittman and the groom was
Danny Jackson. Acting as our
moderator was Jim Haynes.
Members of the panel were Emily
Van Schoick, James Treadway,
Jane Golden, Bob Latimer, and
Diane Leinart. The contestants
were Betty McBroom, Jerry Bart-
lett, Lynette Dockery and our
mystery guest was
Pearl, played by Patricia
Last Tuesday the Leonard
Tigers played host to their lead-
ing rivals, the Trenton Tigers.
Leonard girls played a rough
and hard game, but we came out
on top. The final score was
Leonard 45 and Trenton 44.
The Trenton boys defeated
Leonard, but Leonard played
them a rough and close game up
to the last quarter. Then the
boys slackened and Trenton pull-
ed ahead to win 45 to 25.

The fifth grade pupils
been working with fractions. We
are doing very well in adding
and subtraction, but sometimes
we forget to reduce the fraction
to lowest terms. We won’t give
up, and we’re sure to succeed.
Science is our new subject for
this term. It is very interesting
to study about the plants and
animals, and how they help each
other.

team. The final score was 21 to
17 in Leonard’s favor.
The pupils in our grade are
looking forward to going to Blue
Ridge for the return game.
Another activity in our grade
that we are very much interested
in is our poster making project.
Various subjects have been
chosen. Our Interscholastiq
League spelling lists are being
studied along with our regular,
spelling assignments. By learn-
ing the meaning and spelling of
these words, we will increase
vocabulary.
The shorthand class is
taking dictation from material
not studied in class. The girls
transcribe their own dictation on
the typewriter, and they have
been issued “Gregg Dictation
Simplified” books.

Yesterday was Abraham Lin- j
coin’s birthday, but we will study
something of his life today, Feb.
13, 1956. This child who was
born in Hardin County, Ken-
tucky, Feb. 13, 1809, of poor, un-
educated parents, had no better
chance to make a /great name
for himself than any other child
in the United States. Yet see
what Lincoln did! He freed the
slaves. Yes, that alone would
have made him a great man; but
he did more than that. He saved
our nation as a Union “one and
inseparable” at a time when it
was in danger of breaking up in-
to two weak separate nations.
His name is an inspiration to us
all, and the date of his birth is
a day for every one to honor.
Our class had such a good per-
centage to attend church serv-
ices yesterday.
Our windows have taken
quite a patriotic look since
painted cherries, flags and
houettes of Lincoln and Wash-
ington on them this past week.
Monday, February 13, we shall
discuss stories from current
magazines, television programs,
etc., about Abraham Lincoln.
On our bulletin board will be
picturse of Lincoln’s birthplace
near Hodgensville, Ky., along
with art work by the pupils.
Officers * of our class are as
follows: President, Lou Evans;
vice-president, Gary Petty; sec-
retary, Jim Blain Leinart; re-
porters, Tinkey Toney and

The girls played Honey Grove
Saturday night for the consola-

tie constantly throughout as
scores were tied at the end of
the first quarter and the half
also. The game was that close
all the way through. However,
Honey, Grove came out one
measly point ahead and won the
game, 63-62.
The boys played Savoy follow-
ing the girls game, also playing
for consolation. This game was
also very close throughout the
game, but the boys were some-
what luckier than the girls and
came out on top 60-56. The
trophy was presented to Leon-
ard’s captain, Clifton Evans, after
the finals were played Saturday
night.
Evans, Leonard’s center who *

Many thousands of Americans
are being cured of cancer every
year. More and more people are
going to their doctors in time.
That is encouraging!
But the tragic fact, our doctors
tell us, is that every third cancer
death is a needless death...twice
as many could be saved.
