The first Sunday in November,
November 6, will be Good Turn
E Day. This is the Boy Scouts’ ser-
vice project to help the handicap-
ped at Goodwill Industries by,
| collecting clothing and ho isehold
discards which can be reprocessed
by the workers at Goodwill.
Troop No. 156. Leonard Boy J
I Scouts consider it a privilege to
cooperate in this event. Under the
| supervision of adult scouters, the
troop will cover all parts of thew
city, stopping only at homes
V where bags or boxes are seen.
Take advantage of this opportun-
; ity to help the handicapped, and
at the same time show that “. . .
A Scout Is Helpful.”
: This is a fine example of youth
serving others. At a time when
1 the Golden Rule has cbeome a
! little tarnished by infrequent use,
particularly by many young peo-
ple, it is appropriate to remem-
ber that there are young people
who believe that it is not “pure
cornball” to lend a helping hand.
The Scouts’ Good Turn Day pro-
ject is a fine example of this.
1 Many other helping hands also
go into the project of giving a
CHANCE, not CHARITY, to
handicapped workers at Good-
will Industries.
Firemen and policemen serve
as volunteers to unload the Good
Turn Day bags off the trucks and
into the warehouse Freight com- j
panies do a yeoman job of lend-j
ing trucks and drivers. But not I
only the freight companies—the I
butcher, the baker, the candle-1
stick maker, the dry cleaner, the [
department store owner, the gro- ■
cer — all generously lend trucks
and drivers to aid the cause.
From the wholesaler who pro- i
vides coffee and doughnuts to the I
volunteers to YOU, the individual |
who fills the Good Turn bag, the j
entire operation is the saga of
America at its best People who
are willing to take the time and
trouble to help their neighbors—
that’s Boy Scout Good Turn Day!
Remember to have your Good
Turn Day bag filled and on your
porch at 2 p.m. Sunday, November
6. The Boy Scouts will appreciate
it! The handicapped workers at I
Goodwill Industries will appreci-' |
ate it! , j
