accidents, she pieces clues
together and solves the mys-
tery just about the time her
husband recovers enough to
realize what she is up to.
This is an enjoyable his-
torical mystery series—mur-
ders to intrigue, but little
gore or foul language or oth-
er things people sometimes
tire of. The descriptions of
New York City and Green-
wich Village are fascinating
to those interested in his-
tory, as is Molly’s involve-
ment with those fighting for
Ireland’s freedom when she
makes a trip to Dublin. Her
circle of friends continues
throughout the books to give
love and support and doses
of the “Bohemian” lifestyle
for amusement and enlight-
enment.
“Hush Now, Don’t You
Cry” is available now at
Sanger Public Library, and
the earlier books in the se-
ries are available through
the library’s consortium
partners. To reserve any of
the books, call the library
at 940-458-3257, send us a

Sanger Area Historical
Society wants your help
Whether you are an
“old timer” with roots in
the Sanger area or a newer
member of the community
with an interest in history,
Sanger Area Historical So-
ciety wants to encourage
you to get involved in their
organization. Their motto
is “Preserving Our Heritage
to Enhance the Future.” If
you have read “Remember
in Sanger” on Facebook you
are aware that people like
to reminisce and that there
are interesting stories that
need to be recorded for fu-
ture generations. One com-
ment was, “You know what
is cool? Handing down his-
tory with stories by those
who lived it.” That is their
purpose. They want to re-
cord those stories, family
histories, and other histori-
cal information for future
generations.
They present a couple
of evening programs each
year remembering past
events. Attendees are invited

Fans of the Evan Ev-
ans mystery series by Rhys
Bowen may not know of
her Molly Murphy mystery
series—both take place in
delightful settings, though
Molly’s adventures take
place in New York City be-
ginning in 1902 rather than
the more modern times in
Wales that Evan deals with.
“Hush Now, Don’t You
Cry” is the current Molly
Murphy book, and it lives
up to the standards the se-
ries has set.
Molly arrives at Ellis Is-
land in 1902, one of thou-
sands of new immigrants
who entered NYC daily at
that time. After some ini-
tial difficulties, Molly finds
new friends in Greenwich
Village, already known as
an area of the avant-garde,
with colorful, artistic resi-
dents such as poets, artists,
singers, playwrights, actors,
actresses, and others attract-
ed to a freer lifestyle than
that demanded by more tra-
ditional values. Throughout
the series, Molly has the op-
portunity to interact with
such luminaries of the day as
Mark Twain, Oscar Wilde,
Nellie Bly, members of the
early suffragist movement,
protesters for safer work-
ing conditions for women
and children, and more. In
addition, Molly is there to
witness the start of the sub-
way system, the beginning
construction on the Empire
State building, recruitment
of men to dig the Panama
Canal, and much more. The
setting is as much a charac-
ter in the books as Molly
and her beau.
