The 2016 Leonard-Trenton
Lady Tigers Volleyball Skills
Camp is set for Monday through
Thursday, July 18-21. Session
1 will be for incoming fourth
through sixth graders and will be
held from 9-11 a.m. Session 2 will
be for incoming seventh through
ninth graders and will be held
from 11:30-1:30 p.m. All sessions
will be held at the Trenton High
School gym with instruction
provided by the Leonard and
Siblings Katlyn and David
Brooks traveled to Waco this
past week and participated in
the Texas Junior Livestock
Association annual Belt Buckle
Bonanza held at the ExtraCo
Event Center. This was the
second time the family had
traveled to the ExtraCo Center
for a livestock event, but the
first time was in October 2015,
when both kids scrambled and
caught at the Heart O' Texas
Fair and Rodeo Calf Scramble.
Both will also be returning
Picnic events skip Tuesday
and pick up in full swing on
Wednesday with Gospel Night.
There are several changes to
this year’s timeline, so be sure
to pick up a copy of last week’s
Leonard Graphic with the 2016
Leonard Picnic Guide inside,
or pick up a free Picnic Guide
at several local locations, any
Picnic event, or at the gate of
City Park Wednesday through
Saturday.
The homerun derby and
domino tournaments pulled
this year, but there will still
to the Heart O' Texas Fair
livestock show this October as
exhibitors and hopefully have
the opportunity to scramble
again. At the TJLA show, the
duo found success again.
The cattle were moved into
the barn on Wednesday, and a
normal day of feeding, washing
and grooming happened on
Thursday, followed by show
day on Friday. David showed
his Red Angus heifer named
Aggie, which was sponsored
by 5-J Feeds of Waco early
to earn the reward trip, meal
and free t-shirt on Friday, July
29. The trip will be to the Fort
Worth Museum and Omni
Theater.

and come fly with us!

help of her ag teacher, Kenny
Roberts, Pearl looked great
- and it showed and paid off
in the show ring. Katlyn won
her class in ring A, which
brought her back for the
Breed Championship drive,
which she also won. Katlyn
was awarded the Simmental
Breed Championship buckle
in ring A, then moved on to
children participating in the
program will come to the
church fellowship hall each
morning Monday through
Friday between 10-11 a.m.

Katlyn had ACL surgery in
May, due to a basketball injury,
so she was unable to halter

Katlyn will be attending
the State FFA Convention July
11-15 and then the next show
for the Brooks' will be the
Princeton Back-2-School Show
on Saturday, July 23, at Myers
Park in McKinney.

shorts, t-shirts, appropriate shoes
and knee pads.

First United Methodist
Church of Leonard will be
sponsoring the 2nd Annual
Health and Safety Fair on
Saturday, Aug. 6, from 10
a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LHS
Commons area. This event
will include free screenings,
that parents sign up their
child(ren). Sign-up forms
were distributed through the
school before it dismissed, but
parents may still sign up by
contacting the church office
at 903-587-3463. If there is
no answer, please leave a
message and somebody from
the church will return the call
as quickly as possible.
Additionally, if there are
people in the community who
wish to help, donations for
the program are also being
taken.
Any representatives of
health agencies interested in
having a booth or businesses
willing to sponsor an element
of the fair are welcome

The Miss Leonard Pageant
will officially kick off the
week-long list of events for
the 2016 Leonard Picnic. The
pageant will be Monday, July
11, at 6:30 p.m. at Leonard
Junior High. Eleven girls have
entered in five categories with
hopes to be named the 2016
winner of their division. They
will compete in Summer Sun
Dress, Texas Masquerade
Costume, and Talent (where
applicable) that Monday, with
awards following on Friday
night.

"This was Aggie's second
show, so we were very happy
with how well they both did,"
stated mom Melinda Brooks.
David also decided to
participate in showmanship
on Saturday because he has
realized the more times they
are in the ring together, the
better they are going to get.
Once David was finished
showing, it was time for the
parking lot.
Door will open for
vendors and volunteers at 9
a.m. and the public is invited to
arrive at 10 a.m. Lunch will be
served at 11:30 a.m. This event
is open to residents of Leonard
and surrounding communities.

Area children are
encouraged to be a reading
superhero this summer in the
Leonard ISD 12th Annual
Summer Reading Program.
The Superhero themed
event will be held the first three
Thursdays in July. Children are
encouraged to dress up as their
favorite Superhero for the first
day on Thursday, July 7, but are
also welcome to dress up on July
14 and 21 as well.
Pre-k through second grade
will meet from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
and third through sixth grade
will meet from 11 a.m. to noon.
Prizes will be given each day the
program is held.
Children should read 20
minutes per day for four weeks
The First United
Methodist Church of Leonard
(FUMC) is offering a Summer
Breakfast/Lunch Program for
local children through the end
of the summer. Leonard ISD’s
summer lunch program ended
last Friday, July 1, and FUMC
is picking up where that one
ended - and adding breakfast.
The program began
Tuesday, July 5, and will
continue through Friday, Aug.
19 - the Friday before school
resumes on Monday, Aug. 22.
