Numerous people from various church congregations in the
Leonard area met for National Day of Prayer last Thursday
downtown. Attendees spent time praying for the town and
country and heard a message from FUMC Pastor Adam Spore.

for 117 total votes, or 46.06%.
In the Place 2 election,
Blackerby won with 56.13% and
142 total votes - 3 by absentee,
77 early, and 62 on election day.
McIntire received 43.87% with 111
votes - 12 by absentee, 59 early and
40 on election day.

"Our kids made mistakes, but
they played hard all day long,"
Coheley said. "We got some battle
scars in this series. We were so
inexperienced coming in. In the
end, with the youth of our team,
this will do nothing but help us. I
hate it for the seniors, but we faced
a great opponent.
"Those two Seniors of ours
(Nixon and Colson Coheley) came
to play Saturday. With their backs
against the wall and knowing they
might possibly be playing in their
last high school game, they held
nothing back," Coheley said. "I am
proud of them and everyone else on
the team. But those two stood out.

Principal Chris Mason will
have a new assignment for
2016-17 school year after
Monday night's regular monthly
School Board meeting. With
the recent promotion of High
School Principal Brad Maxwell
to Assistant Superintendent
next year, Mason was promoted
to fill the principal position
Maxwell is vacating. Mason
has spent the last two years at
Leonard Junior High where
the campus has seen overall
improvement in several ways.
The Leonard High School
yearbook staff has been recognized
by Balfour Yearbooks for capturing
the monents of the year in words
and pictures. The Leonard High
School yearbook is recognized
in the 2016 Yearbook Yearbook,
an annual collection of superior
student work. The yearbook adviser
is Nancy Longino.
“Congratulations to every
school recognized in this 30th
edition. As journalists we tell
stories both visually and verbally.
I have been privileged to edit
this inspiration piece for the past
eleven years, and I am humbled
by your effors to tell your stories
well. Being selected for Yearbook
Yearbook is like being handed
an Oscar, an acknoledgement of
exceptional work,” editor Marilyn
Scoggins said. “We honor the
best of the best in this edition of
Yearbook Yearbook.”
Yearbooks published by
Balfour were evaluated in one
or more of the following areas:
theme development, layout design,
photo content, secondary packages
and cover design. The 2016
Yearbook Yearbook recognizes
2015 yearbooks. Leonard High
School’s outstanding work earned
an Honorable Mention recognition
in Yearbook Yearbook.
“As a close-knit group we are
honored beyond words to accept
this award,” Longino said. “We

spent over 1,400 days together. But
there has been some great days,"
Coheley added.
Nixon finished the day with
three hits, a double, a run scored
and three RBI. Meanwhile,
Coheley scored Leonard's first

For six innings last Saturday
at North Forney High School,
the Leonard Tigers baseball team
looked to be poised to force a
third and deciding game with
11th ranked Edgewood in the 3A
Bi-District playoffs. Leading 4-2,
the Tigers needed only three outs to
extend the series.
But in the end, Edgewood's
playoff experience took the
day as the Bulldogs took a 5-4
seventh inning victory, ending
Leonard's season on a tough and
disappointing note.
"Boy I thought we had them...
we were so close. We needed
one more out and couldn't get it.
And who knows what could have
happened in a third game," Head
