Marvin Mott reports that the
Spurger store is now the third
largest Case dealer in the United

weeks ago a couple from
Germany made a stop there.
The store now conducts much
of its business by Internet.
As part of the activities,
Marvin Morgan of Silsbee and
Doug Johnston of Lumberton
will be doing a leather work
demonstration.
The Dutch Oven Cookers will

Mott became a Case dealer in
1992 and added the Dutch Oven
line about 10 years ago.
He recently added Old
Hickory in Kitchen Cutlery and
RADA. He is in the process of
adding Victorinox, though this
product will not be in the store
for this show.
In recent months, the store has
added a number of different
lines of pocket knives. These
include Queen, Puma, Gerber,
Hen and Rooster, Boker, Buck,
Kershaw, Old Timer, Canel
Street Cutlery, Eye Brand and
JA Henckels.
The store is located on Hwy.

Kountze
library to
honor its
‘friends’
October 21-27 has been desig-
nated by Friends of Libraries
USA (FOLUSA) as National
Friends of the Library Week.
To mark this second annual
event, a representative from the
Friends group will be at the
library on October 22 (Tuesday)
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to speak
with prospective Friends mem-
bers. Jo Ann Dixon, Friends
Treasurer, will be available to
discuss the role of Friends in
supporting the library. She will
have brochures and applications
for those interested.
Kountze Public Library is
very fortunate to have an active
and effective Friends group that
was established in 1998 as part
of the effort to build the present
library facility. Current officers
of the Friends group are Elaine
Allums, president, Cathy
Johnston, vice-president, Laurie
Overstreet, secretary and Jo Ann
Dixon, treasurer.
Laveme Crysel, library direc-
tor, commented, “The Friends
Organization has been involved
in many worthwhile projects
since it was formed in 1998. In
fact, patrons are often surprised
when they learn that the Friends
support many library services
and programs enjoyed by the
community.” The Friends do
things as diverse as providing
refreshments for special meet-
ings at the library to donating
$979 worth of tee shirts for Texas
Summer Reading Program in
2007. In addition, they pay for
hosting costs of the library web-
site. In 2006 they donated
$1,953, that together with a
USD A grant, paid for construc-
tion of the library gazebo.
Friends work with the Kountze
Woman’s Club to co-sponsor the
Texas Summer Reading Club
and the Santa Party for Kids held
each December.
