the new utility pole installed to replace the
one which caught on fire and broke around
12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8. The two
trucks to the right are parked on Highway

vacant lot east of Highway 77.
At right, crew members hoisted by the
bucket trucks work to get the wires in place.
Techline, a company that provides
electrical products and services to rural
cooperatives and municipalities, was
contacted by the City of Schulenburg to
assist in replacing the pole.

Road work to start
just south of town
The Texas Department of
Transportation announced this
week that road construction
on Highway 77 just south of
Schulenburg would begin on
March 21 and is expected to last
through August.
Drivers should expect lane
closures. Hunter Industries, Ltd.
is the contractor for the $2.6
million project. It will include
2.46 miles from Loop 222 to just
north of the Lavaca C ounty line.
Highway 77 will be reha-
bilitated over that stretch. When
done, the roadway will have 10-
foot wide shoulders the length
of the project.
