AUSTIN — An official State
Health Department citation for
work proficiency has been
awarded to Weldon M. Hardin,
plant operations specialist for
the Bethesda Water Supply. The
citation is reflective of the re-
gard in which Hardin is held by
state water officials.
Signed by the State Health
Commissioner and authorities of
the Texas Water and Sewage
Works Association, the certifi-
cate of competency is awarded
only to those utility plant op-
erators who have successfully
demonstrated their skill and
knowledge in modern principles
of plant management
To qualify for certification, a
plant operator must have ac-
cumulated a prescribed amount
of actual work experience. He

For Major Surgery
Chester Brown. 518 Janie
Lane, was carried to a Fort
Worth hospital last Friday morn-
ing suffering from internal hem-
orrhaging, and is expected to
undergo major suifcery; probably
by the middle of this week.

Victor Arthur Weir II
To Receive BS Degree
From Texas A&M
Victor Arthur Weir II, Route
1, Box 584, Burleson, will be
one of the 499 students to re-
ceive degrees at the mid-term
graduation from Texas A&M.
Victor will receive a Bachelor
of Science in Mechanical En-
gineering from the College of
Engineering.
Commencement exercises will
be held on the campus Jan. 21.

Death Claims
Anna Hardgrove
Funeral services were held
Monday at 2 p.m. at the First
Baptist Church in Burleson for
Miss Anna Hardgrove, 72, who
passed away in a Dallas Clinic
Saturday. Rev. Ed Schmelte-
kopf. Pastor of the church of-
ficiated. Burial , was in the
Burleson Cemetery.
A native of Burleson, Miss
Hardgrove had lived here all of
her life until some ten years
ago, when she went to Dallas to
live with her sister, Mrs. Virgil
Chase, and the only survivor.
Pallbearers were: Noble
Clark, Roy Mercer, Rufus
Haynes, Homer Keen, Leslie
Johnson and Bob Smith.

Two Fort JForth Men Charged $
With Burglary Of Burleson Home
Charges of burglary has been
filed against Edward M. Cochran
and Danny Ray Tomlin in Jus-
tice of Peace Alf Bowers court
in Cleburne following their ar-
rest for burglary of the W. C.
Allen home, 517 Janie Lane,
Thursday. Both men are from
Fort Worth. They were placed
in the Johnson County jail. Bond
was set at 82000 for each of the
men and on Saturday Chief H.
M. Barnes said, Tomlin posted

Two Burleson students were
selected to play in the 1967 Re-
gion II All-Region Band, which
met at Arlington State College
Jan. 6th and 7th. They were

Building Permits For 1966
Totaled More Than $1,600,000.00;
115 New Homes Among Permits
The progress of Burleson is
truuly reflected by the-vatiding
permits issued by the city dur-
ing 1966 which reached the
grand total of 81,655,369.66, in-
cluding 115 new homes with a
total value of 81,575,500.00.
The city did not release the
increase in population during
1966, though figures given out
during the year indicated Bur-
leson gained approixmately 1
family each day, with of course
a number of people have moved
out and we have no figures
relative to the net gain.
- The total report for 1966 is
as follows: residential, new, 115,
81,575,500; residential, remodel,
10, 88,500; commercial, new, 1,
818,000; commercial, remodel, 3,
810,800; garages and other build-
ings, 10, 810,150; fences, ~19,

Floyd Gass To Be Speaker [(
At Foot ball Banquet Saturf
Floyd Gass, Head Coach and
Athletic Director of Austin Col-
lege, Sherman, Texaa, will be
the principal speaker at the
Burleson High School Annual
Football Banquet on Saturday
night, Jan. 14. The banquet will
be held in the High School Gym-
nasium and will begin at 7:80
p.m. • / t«

College in the fall of 1955 as
Assistant Football Coach and
Head Basketball Coach. Under
his guidance, Austin College
basketball teama in 1958 and
1959 went to the national tour-
nament of National Asaociation
of Intercollegiate Athletics.
He was named Head Coach of
the Austin College football team
in 1961 and since that time the
Kangaroos have always been a
contender. In 1965, the Austin
College team won 7 and lost 2,
the best record among independ-
ent .colleges in Texas, and in
1966 his football team won 6
and lost 3. At Austin College
he has coached three Little All-
Aknericans, once had the na-
tion’s leading small college pass-
er on his tesm, and has guided
two quarterbacks to the nation's
small college total offense title.
He later played football and
baaketball at Oklahoma State
University where he received his
B.A. degree in 1950. He earned
his masters degree at East Tex-
as State University. He coached
