SEPTEMBER MEETING: One of everyone's favorite speakers, Mr. Lloyd D.
Bockstruck from the Genealogy Department of the Dallas Public Library,
will start the year right. His subject is a source that many of us
have not explored, "HEREDITARY SOCIETIES AND GENEALOGICAL RECOURCE".
Hereditary Societies have created numerous records and many of these
records have been published. Lloyd will tell us where to find, and
what we can find in these records. Some are in our library. He has
agreed to answer questions within time limits. Most of us, having
heard his knowledgeable speeches and patient and efficient handling of
our genealogical problems in the library, know that this will surely
be a rewarding program. This is an evening meeting, 7-9 p.m., Wyatt
Cafeteria (Mockingbird at Abrams), Thursday, 21 September 1978. Come
early enough to eat with your friends before the thirty minute
business meeting starting at 7 p.m. Guests are welcome.
MINI-WORKSHOP: Helen Stinson has organized an excellent workshop that
should capture the attention of those beginning and those who need to
review. The Workshop will cover in depth three basic sources of
genealogical information with which anyone seriously interested in
genealogy should be throughly familiar. Too, we will learn how to
read that old handwriting when we find it. Four of our members, all
effective sneakers, and each experienced in his subject will hel us in:
1. HOW TO SEARCH A COURTHOUSE . . . Helen Lu & Gwen Neumann
2. HOW TO READ OLD HANDWRITING . . . . . . . . Gwen Neumann
3. HOW TO EXTRACT GENEALOGICAL
INFORMATION FROM A CENSUS RECORD . . . . .Renee Smith
1. UNDERSTANDING PROBATE RECORDS . . . . . . . Bill Crawford

NEW BOARD APPOINTEES: Since the installation of officers at our June
meeting, two vacancies created by the resignations of W. G. Menefee &
Ralph Widener have been filled by Board appointment. Bill Jacoby will
be our Program Director. (Isn't the first program a fine beginning?)
Russell Marriott will lend his experience as a Director. The list of
new officers in the Seotember Quarterly is complete except for Russell.
MEETING PLACE: The Executive Board has a permanent p ace to meet thanks
to Georgia Clements and Herschel Forester Realtors. They are lending
their conference room at 9308 Forest Lane the second Thursday evening
of each month. This is more businesslike and easier for the iVndividual
board members who have alternately hosted the meetings in their homes.
NEW TOTAL: DGS membership has tooped the magic number of "5O0" Some
new members listed here joined DGS after the list -in the September
Quarterly went to press, so you may want to add them to your roster.I
