Happiness
Some people fail to enjoy life
because they are unable to deter-
mine what happiness is and where
it may be found. Some fail be-
cause for them happiness is a
dream, an ambition or a goal in
life.
When dreams come true, they
are usually less than we pictured
them in the mind’s eye. A goal
achieved usually brings more a
sense of achievement than a real
sense of happiness.
Some of us miss out on happi-
ness because we fail to realize
that the greatest happiness may
be found in the things we take
for granted — love of family,
warmth of the fireside, a quiet
hour spent in God’s House.
If you wish happiness, look
about you. Count what you have,
not what you would like to have.
Be grateful, and pay more atten-
tion to the little things of life.
You might discover where you
have been missing out.

“The locusts have no king,
yet go they forth all of them
by bands” (Proverbs 30:27).
Locusts are tiny insects that
resemble grasshoppers. When
they attack, they come in such
numbers on their whirring
wings that the sky is darkened
as though a storm is approach-
ing. Alone a locust can do
nothing. But in bands they can
devastate a land and impover-
ish the people. Locusts have no
ruler; yet they work together
and do not turn loose until the
job is finished. If some of their
number die, the other insects
will climb over the dead bodies
and keep right on working.
God’s people are supposed to
stand together in His Cause.
We are to work together, BUT
WE ARE TO WORK TO-
GETHER IN HIM. And we are
to be ministers one to another.
The strong are to bear the in-
firmities of the weak (Romans
15:1). We are to strengthen
weak hands and confirm feeble
knees (Isaiah 35:3).
It is interesting that locusts
do not have to be forced. By

instinct they move together,
having no king. As members
of One Body, we are to count
ourselves as of no consequence
as compared with the work of
the Lord. It is not important
what happens to us. We are
expendable. The important
thing is what happens to the
Cause. The Cause must be
everything. That we may die
is not the question. The ques-
tion is this: Did we die stand-
ing for the Truth, or did we
die trying to save ourselves by
compromising Truth ? The
soldier who always seeks to
save himself never wins the
battle. It is not how long but
how well we live that matters.
Locusts are also “exceeding
wise” (Proverbs 30:24). We
are to be “wise as Serpents,
and harmless as doves” (Mat-
thew 10:16), to “walk circum-
spectly, not as fools but as
wise, Redeeming the time, be-
cause the days are evil”
(Ephesians 5:15, 16. The
Word of God makes wise the
simple (Psalm 19:7).

That our sons may be as |
our daughters may be as corner stones.
—Psalms.CXLIV,! 2
Parents never pray, never plan without consideration for their
children. There is great pride in the first word, the first step, the first
achievement in school. Ideally, throughout life there is guidance and
love. These are essential. With proper guidance, the early steps are
straight and strong. In the knowledge of love, there is security.
