Burleson High School with the
Boys tournament leading the
way. Burleson is hosting a var-

Selling Christmas Wrap
“Please say yes to the many
citizens that are donating so
much of their time this Christ-
mas trying to sell 1600 packages
of Christmas paper and 400
Bowling alley to run from Nov.
29 to Dec. 20. The entry fee of
$5 per person and a person can
bowl anytime lanes are avail-
able. A portion of the fee will
be divided among bowling, li-
brary, and prize divisions. Priz*
es will go to th? top 5 bowlers.

NW Hillery, and operators of
White’s Auto Store, will com-
pete in the Fort Worth Dupli-
cate Bridge Tournament.
The Fort Worth Duplicate
Bridge Club is to stage its
winter tournament at the Sher-
aton-Fort Worth Hotel on Dec.
12, 13, and 14. The event has
been sanctioned by the Ameri-
can Contract Bridge League of
Greenwich, Conn, and assigned
sectional status. Master points
are to be awarded proportion-
ate to the number of tables in
each event. Silver trophies are
to be presented also.
The schedule includes: single
session team of four, men’s,
women’s, mixed, master’s, side
games and consolation pairs and
a two session open pairs.

Death Claims
Mrs. R. A. Jeffress
Funeral services were held at
2 p.m. Wednesday at the First
Baptist Church for Mrs. R. A.
(Mattie E.) Jeffress, 85, of 113
W. Buford. She died early
Tuesday morning in a Ft. Worth
hospital from a brain hemor-
rage after suffering an attack
Sunday at her home. She was
a member of the*- First Baptist
Church.
She is survived by her hus-
band R. A. Jeffress of Burle-
son, three sons, C. R. of Fort
Worth, and R. L. and Jack N.,
both of Burleson; six daughters,
Mrs. Mason Grisso and Mrs.
Melvin Dunn, o fBurleson, Mrs.
Hazel Hughes, Fort Worth, Mrs.
Ralph Graves, Joshua, Mrs. W.
O. Davenport, Houston, and
Mrs. Glen Thornton, Abilene.
Twenty-three grandchildren and
thirty-eight great grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeffress had
been married sixty-seven years
and both have lived here for
some seventy-five years.
Burial was in the Burleson
cemetery under the direction of
Jones Funeral Home.

Five Boys Arrested,
3 Stolen Cars Recovered
Monday night was a very busy
one for the local police depart-
ment, when they arrested five
boys on car theft and recovered
throe 1961 Chevrolets.
Patrolmen Douglas. Sgt. Yates

First Probate Court
Held In Burleson
Judge Tom Ball presided at
Court in the City Hall Dec. 2,
10 a.m. to probate the will of
Clyde Loftlin’s parents. Wit-
nesses to the will were Mr.
Loftlin, Gracie Jones and
George Bransom Jr. K. Epper-
son, Deputy County Clerk, serv-
ed as "court clerk. R. A.- Kil-
patrick served as attorney.
Before the court conveined,
Judge Ball announced that the
Probate Court was held in Bur-
leson at the request of City
Manager, Doc Ward, and that
in the future they would also
hold Probate Court here when

Deputy Sheriff Tri Birdwell and
Juvenile Officer Joe Town at-
tended the courts and Judge
Ball announced that Juvenile
Court would handle Burleson

the City Hall.

Plan Established To
Help Needy Families
Will all families in the Bur-
leson area receive gifts and
sented the poem “Wortianhood”. food this Christmas? Without
special provisions, some would
definitely be left out. A plan
has been established in our city
that will enable the community
to share with those who have
experienced hardship and who
are underprivileged.
The Community Action Com-
mittee is coordinating the ef-
forts of all civic groups, clubs
and churches who desire to pro-
vide assistance to disadvantaged
families. All groups are re-
quested to cooperate with the
Community Action Committee
so that all families who have

Elks Drop Bi-District Game With Bonham

The 1969 Burleson Elks com-
pleted the
schedule in the history of the
school with a season record of
9 wins and 2 losses. The Elks
were outright champions of dis-
trict 5AAA with a record of
6 wins and one loss.

with 8 seconds left in the first
quarter to take a 7 to 0 lead.
This was the only scoring until
late in the , 3rd quarter when
Bonham scoi-ed again to make
it 14 to 0.
The Elks only threat came
early in the third quarter when
a 53 yard pass completion to
Eddie Neeper from Alan Ma-
gee set the Elks up on the Bon-
ham 19 yard line. A pass in-
terception ended the scoring
threat! by the Elks.
From this point on, the Wor-
riors dominated the game by
scoring 23 points before the
Elks were able to move the ball
into scoring territory. The Titus, Randy Clowdus, and
Touchdown came when Bryan Bobby Smajstrla.
The Burleson Jaycees are
going all out this year to en-
courage you to decorate your
home for Christmas. A group
of Jaycees and their wives will
travel every street in town
looking for those special houses
which will receive this year’s
awards.
