Billy Edd Rogers ' disease and government
kicked the extra point.
Early in the second quarter
Arnold intercepted an Elliott pass
on the Mount Vernon 46 Seven
plays carried to the Mount Ver-
non nine and Jones lateraled to.
Arnold who went around right
end to score on the next play,
with 8:38 left in the half. Rogers
kicked the point after.
Later in the period Mount Ver-
non muffed a scoring chance when
an Elliott pass was intercepted by
defensive back Larry Lambert at
the Commerce five.
The Mount Vernon kickoff to
open the second half was returned
to the Commerce 36. They moved
the ball to their own one in 11
plays, one of them a 26-yard pass
from Jones to Arnold. David Dor-
ries, a halfback, carried over cen-
ter for the tally with 5:15 left in
the quarter. Rogers kicked the
point from the eight after a 5-
yard penalty nullified his first
try.
Following the ensuing kickoff
by Commerce, Mount Vernon
drove from their own 37 to the
Commerce four, with Elliott ac-
counting for runs of 19 and 16
yards, before giving up the ball
on downs.
Midway of the fourth quarter
Commerce launched a drive from
their own 16 following a punt by
Jackie Hopkins which rolled out
at this point. Eleven plays later
Arnold went over center for nine
yards to score with only 45 sec-
onds left in the game.
