i 1- :
the improving Bearcats.
With less than three
minutes licked off the clock,
Sanger’s Jimmy Harris
scooped up a punt and raced
25 yards for a touchdown.
That score came before
Sanger ever ran a play from
scrimmage.
Danny Spindle missed the
extra point try and it was 6 0
with 9:48 remaining in
first period of play.
'1 he touchdown came when
Whitesboro’s Louis Crockett
bobbled the snap from
center, picked up the ball
and kicked it on the run
Harris caught the ball about
three yards up the first
while Crockett was being
mauled by Sanger defen
i
dors.
The Indians made it 14 0 in
the second period on their
best offensive drive of the
night.
Greg Johnson started the
march at the 35 yard line
and Dwayne Lyon ended it
with a one yard plunge into
the end zone with 9:21
remaining in the period.
During the second half.
Sanger allowed the Bearcats
only one first down. 20 yards
rushing ‘and a’ minus one
yard via the aerial routes.
And that’s good defense in
any league!
Sanger never trailed in the
contest, and it was evident
Irom the start that the
Indians would overpower

on that drive, all ol it on th<
ground.
Whitesboro came ’ right
back, however, following thi
kickolf when quarterback
Danny Carter hit running
back Harold Achimon with a
quick pass over the middle
The play went for 46 yard
and a touchdown.
Harris blocked the extra
point hnd it was 14 6 with
7:27 remaining in the hall.
The Bearcats quickly scor
ed again alter recovering
Don Henderson’s fumble on
the ensuing kickoff.
Whitesboro took over at
the Indian 34 and scored on a
fourth down pass from
Carter to tight end Bobby
Ramsey. This one went lor
24 yards.
Achimon attempted to run
the extra points, but the try
fell short anil it was 14 12.
Whitesboro t hreatened
again just before the hall,
driv mg to Sanger's fiv e yard
line before a loss and a
penalty set the Bearcats
back at the 11. An attemp
ted field goal was blocked
with only 23 seconds
remaining in the half.
It was the fourth period
before Sanger could muster
the offensive strength to
cross t he double stripes
again.
Lyon started that series at
the Bearcat 46 and ended it
by going over the middle for
this second touchdown of the
night.
This one came with 6:12
left in the game and
Spindle's kick for the extra
point again failed, leaving
the score 20 12.
Big play in the drive was
Johnson's 24 yard scamper
to the 1 yard line.
Sanger's final touchdown
came with only .5:17
remaining in the game.
Randy Kesseler scored that
one after intercepting a
Charley Saye pass at the
Bearcat 17 and racing in to
the end zone untouched.
Johnson's run for the
points failed and the score
was 46-12.
The Indians then recovered
an <»n sides kickoil to run t h.
dock down to less than two
minutes before Whitesboro
again took possession. Ken
ruth George fell on the on
sides' kick to give Sanger
possession at t he Bearcat 11.
A 15 yard penalty stymied
the drive, however, and
Whitesboro took over at the
20 yard line.
Johnson was the leading
ball carrier with 116 yards in
24 attempts for a 1.8 yard
average. Armstrong carried
16 times for 54 yards, an
average of almost 3.4 yards
per try, while Lyon carried
10 times for 31 yards and a
3.1 yard average.
.Although Johnson was the
leading ground gainer, he
failed to score. Lyon took
the honors as high-scorer
w ith two touchdowns for the
night.
