For those who want the latest
word on where the interest rates are
for VA home loans, here’s the most
recent release from the Department
of Veterans Affairs:
The maximum home loan interest
rate is being reduced from 10.5
percent to 10 percent. This means
payments on a typical VA home loan
of 175,000 will be 1336 less annually.
The VA has also decreased by
one-half percentage point the maxi-
mum rates for GPMs, Graduated
Payment Mortages, to 10.26 percent;
home improvement loans to 11.5
percent; manufactured home loans
to 12.5 percent; manufactured home
lot-only loans to 12 percent, and
manufactured home and lot loans to
12 percent.
While it’s nice to note these
reductions, remember, the VA’s
interest rates can go up at any time.
The last rise in the maximum home
loan interest rate occurred just
about eight months ago on Decem-
ber 19,1988 when It went up from 10
to 10.6 percent.
The VA says its rule for establish-
ing rates depends on “...continued
Investor confidence in the economy
as well as current financial market
conditions in which investors are
willing to accept lower yields on
long term investments.”
