WITH A SUBURBAN
HOUSEWIFE
I ALSO DECIDED this year I would make some of my
own bows. I bought the equipment to do it with and spent
three nights learning how to make bows. So far I have one
that looks like a crossword puzzle, but I’m using it anyway.
At any rate my packages are getting wrapped.
Now if I could just find the scissors. And the tape...what
happened to that tape? Well, here’s the pencil I was looking
for awhile ago. Good grief, now I’ve lost the...oh, here it is.
tv
I can get myself into more messes while I’m trying to wrap
Christmas presents.
I had a new 15 foot roll of wrapping paper and was trying
to wrap gifts on the bed. The bed was too crowded in the
first place with boxes and sacks all over the place. But there
I was anyway, wrapping fast as lightening.
I came to a fairly large box to wrap and proceeded to lay
the paper under the box. The roll of paper got away from me
and rolled over the pillows. I had my hands full holding the
box up so I just watched the paper roll, thinking it would
stop at the pillows.
It didn’t. It continued to roll inside the headboard and
finally landed on the floor. I thought to myself, “Well at least
I can see what 15 feet of paper looks like all at once.”
I really wasn’t too worried about retreving the pap^r. I
thought it would be easy to get to. It was just under the bed
by the wall. I was wrong.
At one point I had my arm stuck between the bedstead
and the wall. After painfully removing myself, I crawled
under the bed.
When I raised up I was covered with green stripped
wrapping paper from head to toe. Trying not to wrinkle the
paper I slung it over the bed as you would a sheet. I still had
my head under the paper.
If it wasn’t ridiculous enough, my husband walked into the
room and said, as he peeped under the paper at me, “Hi,
where would you like me to stick the bow?”
ONE REASON I was trying to be so careful with the
paper in the first place was because of the price. Not only do
we have the worry of doing our gift shopping we also have to
purchase cellophane tape, paper, bows and gift name tags.
Just wrapping the present alone can get expensive.
Being a working woman (as many are) I have to do my
shopping in a hurry on my lunch hour or running my legs off
on my days off.
It’s a proven fact you shouldn’t shop when you’re in a
hurry. I know because I’ve proven the fact by making so
many dumb mistakes.
Naturally we shop for the best bargain on wrapping paper
comparing the feet or yards to the price. I was also
comparing (in a hurry) for gift name tags.
I saw one package for 89c with 255 pieces to it. I bought it
immediately. It turned out to have fifteen gift name tags and
240 glue on stickers that aren’t worth the paper they’re
printed on.

Rev. Don Womble, associ-
ate pastor of Burleson Bap-
tist Temple, brought the
devotional at the meeting of
Burleson Senior Citizens
Fun Club on Dec. 4.
Approximately 50 persons
met for the meeting at First
United Methodist Church.
President Peggie Ham-
mons opened the meeting
with prayer.
Reports and announce-
ments were heard and those
who had birthdays or anni-
versaries during the month
received recognition.
As a point of business the
Christmas party, which will
take place at the next
meeting at First Baptist
Church on Dec. 18, was
discussed. It was decided
that rather than the usual
hot dishes, salads, sandwich-
es, chips, dips and other
goodies would be served.
All senior citizens in the
area are invited to be
present at the Christmas
party.
Omega Delta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held it’s first
meeting in December in the new home of Mrs. Linda Pettit,
president.
It was announced that a Christmas party is being planned
for the children of members on Dec. 14 from 2 until 4 p.m.
Gifts will be exchanged and it is expected that Santa Claus
may be a guest.
Arrangements for the annual Valentine dance are being
made for Feb. 14 at Mountain Valley Country Club.
Party books and denim purses were sold to members as a
ways and means project.
It was announced that the pledge training meeting for
December will be combined and that the Christmas
dinner-social will be held on Dec. 16. Mrs. Pettit, service
chairman, announced that members will collect toys and
donate $25 from the chapter’s treasury to the Burleson Toys
for Tots Drive as a service project.
Mrs. Mabie Meyers presented the program entitled “Vive
La Difference”. She began by proclaiming “Men Are
Wonderful Week.”
The object of her program was to consider the relationship
between the sexes from our new vantage point of increased
understanding about ourselves as women.
As an activity, Mrs. Meyers asked some questions about
experiences that had happened in the past week which
would make our husbands proud of us -- not as a stereo-typed
domestic housewife-but as a woman sharing responsibilities
in a wife and husband relationship.
Questions asked were: Did you share a sports interest
with your husband this past week-end? Where do the Dallas
Cowboys rank in the N.F.L. standings this week? Did you
talk to him about a toy, dress, or experience that also made
him interested in you? When did your husband last help you
set tliA tabk*? Whether the answer? accomplished t^eir ;
purpose is still under advisement. AddreSSOS
The surprise gift, a round crystal butter dish, was won by
Mrs. Nancy Sublett.
Refreshments of strawberry shortcake, spiced tea, and
soft drinks were served to all members.
