Mansfield, the team the

had to come back in the

Firearm accidents have
something in common with
all types of mishaps. They
are preventable.
The Safety Council of
Fort Worth and Tarrant
Conty says firearm safety
precautions are not merely
important for their owners,
they are imperative.
The two cardinal rules of
gun safety are don’t load a
gun until you are ready to
shoot, and don’t point a gun
at anything you don’t want
to shoot.
Shooting accidents can oc-
cur when loaded guns are
transferred in and out of
autos, campers and boats.
Loaded guns are also
hazardous when hunters are
climbing fences, walls, trees
or moving quickly.
And there is the tragedy
of youngsters shot while
playing with a loaded gun
found in the home.
The Safety Council sug-
gests locking the gun and
ammunition in separate
places. Lock, don’t hide, the
council emphasized. The
child has not been born who
cannot find what has been
deliberately hidden from
him.

After the first week of
district play, three teams are
crowding the top of the 3A-5
standings. By tomorrow
night, however, no more
than two teams will share
the district lead and by
Tuesday it could narrow
down still further to just
one.
