The Phiiomalie club met in reg-
ular seution on April 5 at the
home of Mm. E. S. Winfree. Af-
ter a short business meeting Mrs.
O. R- Borchers, as leader, took
charge of the program, the first
of a series on “Mexico” She
very capably portrayed “ Mexican
Music,” stressing the type and |
rhythm of the leading Mexican
composers.
Miss Mattie Mae Tomlinson ren-
rendered a piano solo, “La Pa-
loma, ’’ which was enjoyed by all.
Mrs. Lilburn May discussed
“Mexican Poetry,” giving the
best known Mexican poets and
their literature.
Throughout the rooms were
pretty displays of Mexican arts,
pottery and handicraft.
At the close of the meeting
delicious Mexican pecan candy
was served.
The club then adjourned to
meet with Mrs. O. A. Mudd on
April 19.

erating a food and drink dispen-
sary on Espando street at Cuero.
Mr. Barnes is married and is
the father of four children. His
wife is the former Miss Anthia
Weikel of Westhoff, who is well
known in DeWitt county where
she has resided all her life.
Feeling that he is well qualified
to fill the duties of the office of
Alvin “Pop” Barnes has en- ,
tered the race for treasurer of on the £^£ej\
DeWitt county and has author-

in the announeement column of
this paper.
Mr. Barnes who is 37 years old,
is a native of DeWitt county,
having been boro in Ceuro, a
son of the late R. H. Barnes who
operated a jewelry store there
for many years. He attended the
Cuero high school. For a period
of ten years he was associated l attended

Stuercke in
afternoon.
