We have enjoyed clear, sunny weather most of the past week,
only a few mornings early that were freezing cold!
***
1 went in to Dell City with Mr. W. Monday morning of last
week and he went in to pick up a few groceries; while I re-
mained in the pick-up, my attention was called to watching
a flock of wee yellow-breasted birds which were having a
merry time fluttering about the roof and eaves of the Mini-Mart
building.
***
Janey Cedillo and little Priscilla were visiting with Aurora
while we were over there. Mr. W. left a small offering to
Padre Saul Uribe as he was going back to Columbia to visit
with his brother who was very ill.
***
Our sister-in-law, Dorothy called Saturday to thank us for
the flowers, and to tell us about my brother Raybum’s funeral
services. Our old home was in Cleburne and the services took
place at Field St. Baptist Church, which we attended while
small children. They did not have a military funeral, but did
drape the casket with the Stars and Stripes, So sorry we could
not attend.
***
Nora Lea and Andy went to Carlsbad Friday evening and
attended a musical affair at the Mid-High School where Ande
Lea Harris, Janet’s daughter, attends school. Ande Lea sang
a solo and was also included in several others numbers. This
was done by the Chorus group. The theme was "Music of the
50’s through 80’s". It was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
***
We received the cutest Valentine from Carole DeWeese - a
little apron cut out of heart and flowers motif-material -- that
fits around a bottle of Joy soap liquid - real clever! Of course
I had to make some too.
***
Have just called over to Ruby’s and Dan answered, She went
in to Carlsbad Friday and planned to stop at Queen’s for Sunday^
program. Hope she gets to hear the Master’s Four, as I believe
they were scheduled.

While employed in the Office of County Judge at Matador and
Co.Supt. of schools for 16 years or more, I had a lot of pleasant
experiences. One day the Principal of one of the 8th grade
schools came in and just out of the blue says, " I want you to
write my college thesis - I don’t have time" - 1 gasped; " Why
Jake, I’ve never written any such kind of documents. " But we
got to discussing his problem, and I said if it would suit him
for us to use information about the schools of the County, I
thought I could cope. We had 2 rural high schools and rural
grade schools in 3 Districts - was an interesting project. He
liked the idea so we went to work at it. He took the notes and
information we had gathered up, and when he got it all assem-
bled, I typed it up. One day a friend from Flomot School came
in to the office and told me that Mr, R., the Principal at Flo-
mot SchooL was padding the roll as he was taking the school
census. He was planning to run for County Judge, but when she
exposed him, he left the County in a hurry,

Dean, Odessa, and Deana Wood have moved. They now live
about 45 miles north of Dell City, and Odessa is carried away
with the place. So beautiful, trees and mountains. They are
now running the Stewart Ranch. . They are not near a school
but Odessa has always taught Deana at home. She’s a wonder-
ful little violinist, too. Hope they come by soon.

We understand that Maggie Esparza’s son drove the Sr. Cit-
izens Bus recently to take a few to EL Paso. We surely do need
a steady volunteer driver. We have missed going in — and
surely appreciated Luz and her husband, Susan and Lucita tak-
ing a few of us in to EL Paso last week.
***
Friday morning the 28th - Mr. W, and I ran in to Dell City
to see Aurora before she left for the hospital. Saturday morning
early Lupe called us to tell us that the baby boy arrived at 2:00
o’clock the morning of the 1st - at Providence Hospital. We
are happy for' them, and hope she can bring him home soon.
***
Dr. Hooper came back from Lubbock and stopped by Dell
City. While here, he was called to visit Mrs. Maria Moran.
He also ran out to see Susie - Doc, I bought a huge cherry pie-
so stop by next time.
***
Ray Collier brought us a tank of gas on Thursday and had
coffee and visited while the tank filled. He told us his little
mother was ill, but I haven't gotten to go to see her. Hope
she is lots better.
