OUR LIBRARY
The library of Beth Yeshurun is
open for use. It is situated both in
Montefiore Hall, and in Room 108
of the Albert Sidney Johnston Jun-
ior High School. We have presently
a very fine collection of juvenile
and adult Jewish books and are in
the process of compiling a list of
books and magazines which, we
think, should supplement our pre-
sent collection. The following are
examples of our juvenile collection:

1. "Joey Meets His People"—H. L.
Kruckman.
An imaginative story of a little
Jewish boy who misbehaves in He-
brew and is taken on a strange ad-
venture where he learns about the
great Jewish heroes of history. (9-
12 years).

FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE
For your convenience a library
and lounge has been set up in Room
4 of Montefiore Hall. When you
wish to use the telephone, chat with
a friend, or meet with a small
group, you are welcome to avail
yourself of the facilities of this
room. There is a radio, magazines,
periodicals and books at your dis-
posal.
In addition to making it more
convenient for you, your use of
the lounge will help eliminate gath-
erings and the tying up of the tele-
phones in the business offices.
PALESTINE FELLOWSHIPS
AVAILABLE, OCTOBER 1948
The Zionist Organization of Am-
erica announces four Palestine fel-
lowships which will be awarded for
the academic year commencing Oc-
tober, 1948. Each fellowship will
be in the amount of $1500, to in-
clude tuition and transportation
costs. Two fellowships will be a-
warded for a year of study at the
Hebrew University, and two for a
year of study in the Jewish Agency
Leadership Training Course.
Applicants for either fellowship
must be citizens of the United
States, and must present a certifi-
cate of health indicating physical
ability to carry on studies in the
Near East.
Applicants must not have passed
their 25th birthday at the time of
application.
Hebrew University fellowships
are open to graduates of recogniz-
ed colleges or universities, without
restrictions as to sex, race or creed.
Applicants must indicate a back-
ground of previous studies and pre-
sent interests such as would make
a year at the Hebrew University
helpful in their further research
and study. The judges will take in-
to consideration such important
factors as academic standing, field
of interest and proficiency in He-
brew.
Classes of intensive study in He-
brew language and literature, Zi-
onism, Palestinography, sociology
of Palestine and Jewish life gener-
ally have been established by the
Jewish Agency particularly for
young people from English-speak-
ing countries. Formal classroom
work is augmented by frequent fi-
eld trips throughout the country.
Applicants for these fellowships
must indicate a record of active in-
terest in Young Judaea, Masada,
Junior Hadassah or the Intercol-
legiate Zionist Federation of Ameri-
ca, and upon termination of their
fellowship are expected to partici-
pate actively in Zionist affairs in
their community. The judges will
take into consideration the appli-
cants’ potential leadership ability.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN
INSURANCE?
Of course, to ask that question is
to answer it. We ail believe in be-
ing prepared for the inevitable.
“Ueber a hundert and tzvantzig,”
we wish to leave our family and
our dear ones secure from need and
from embarrassment. That is why
we believe in insurance.
There is another matter, how-
ever, that we should make arrange-
ments for, because unless we do,
our families are put in a position of
embarrassment at a time of tragedy
and sorrow when they are in no
position to make decisions and fin-
ancial arrangements. I am referr-
ing to the purchase of cemetery
grounds.
I have often been in a position to
see how helpless families are in
the hour when tragedy strikes,
when no provision has been made
for the last resting place of those
we love. We are in no position at a
time like that to make the neces-
sary choice or to go through fin-
ancial or legal procedure. Such un-
preparedness leads to endless em-
barrassment and humiliation and
adds unnecessary pain to wounds
that are already deep and fester-
ing.
We recommend for the sake of
your family and loved ones that
you make your arrangements now
to purchase the real estate which
will be yours forever; and do it
now, when you are in a position to
make the necessary arrangements
calmly, unhurriedly and wisely.
If you are interested, and you
should be, we invite you to get in
touch with our Executive Director
at our office, F. 5128, and he will
be very happy to be of assistance to
you in this very important and ser-
ious matter.
