SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES - FRIDAY, MARCH 28

SEE YOU AT THE RED SEA!
Remember! There’s No Public or Religious
School on Friday, March 28!
The Arabs have done nothing that they do not follow
as a policy in their own countries, nothing that Peking
has not tried in parallel form. But when they try to require
American corporations to adopt their own anti-Jewish bias,
they have asked the unacceptable and the illegal in the
United States.
Roaming the civilized world with their petrodollars,
Arab investors have tried to compel Volkswagen, the West
German automobile company, to sever all relations with
Israel by threatening to boycott its cars. They have
pressured banks in London to keep Jews out of executive
positions as the price for their business. And in the
United States they have offered deposits and loans to
banks with the condition that no Jew sit on the board or
control any major amount of the bank’s stock.
A Senate subcommittee has released a Saudi Arabian
blacklist of some 1,500 American firms, companies to be
threatened with boycott. But the Anti-Defamation League
has found only 13 incidents in which American companies
have knuckled under to the threat. Merrill Lynch, for
instance, has refused to bar Jewish-owned banks from
certain loan syndicates even though this prompted Kuwait
to withdraw from the deal. Volkswagen has refused to
break off with Israel.
Rabbi Jack Segal asked that the following editorial be
brought to the attention of the congregation and that mem-
bers write the Houston Post in approval.

Arab thinking is different from ours. Since the founding
of Israel, travelers could enter Israel from Arab states,
but could enter no Arab state on a passport showing a
visit to Israel. While the Arabs held Jerusalem between
1948 and 1967, no Jews could enter the old city to visit
their holy places; under Israeli jurisdiction from 1967 to
the present, any Arab may move freely throughout the
old city.
Moving out onto the world stage, Arab investors have
brought this attitude of mind to play in their investments.
But they cannot expect success here. The Arab countries
have the sovereign right not to trade with Israel if they
choose not to; they cannot force the custom on other
sovereign nations or on companies and corporations of
other sovereign nations. President Ford said, “Foreign
businessmen and investors are welcome to the United
States when they are willing to conform to the principles
of our society. However, any allegations of discrimination
will be fully investigated and appropriate action taken
under the laws of the United States.”
The American businessman likes to do good business.
But he is not likely to brook dictation from an investor,
foreign or domestic, that goes against the precepts of the
Declaration of Independence.
