two years ago for a year, but
Centel did not propose it to
the PUC. said Terry Jones,
Sanger Drug owner who was
chairman of the 10-member
committee of people who
have the 458 prefix tele-
phone number. #
"They said the flat rate
would have to be too high
and it was cost prohibitive
for the customers," Jones
said. "We didn't really get,
what we wanted, but this
does help some people."
Doss said he did not
know the whole process that
the EAS proposal took
because he was not the Centel
representative on the com-
mittee. but he agreed that
cost was probably the main
consideration by the com-
pany for not going for the
flat rate extended service to
Denton.
Sanger City Manager
John Hamilton added. "It's
certainly a step in the right
direction, and hopefully it
will be the first step toward
full extended service into
Denton and the Metroplex so
it will help our citizens and
our economic development."

High School Financial
Planning, a six part
curriculum with personal
financial management
concepts is being offered to
area teachers and youth
workers. This program is
co-sponsored by the College
for Financial Planning, the
Texas Agricultural
Extension Service-Denton
County and the Lewisville
Library. The training is
scheduled for Tuesday, April
28. 7:00 p.m. at the
Community Meeting Room
at the Municipal Center,
1197 West Main. Lewisville.
There is no charge for the
training, but pre-
registration is required by
April 23.
The program is timely
for today's teens. Teens
today handle money-lots of
it. The average teen in the
U.S. spends an average of
$3,000 per year. Most
spending by teens is
discretionary and for their
own wants not their
families. This artificial
affluence can adversely
affect their ability to manage
money when they become
adults when spending is
required for necessities and
Income available for
discretionary spending
shrinks. Credit becomes a
major problem for young
adults who overuse credit to
the extent of wrecking their
financial future.

the High School Financial
Planning Program contact

Extension Agents at 817-

The lab was chosen because it is based on the concept
that it is better to offer students and teachers more than just
one type of technology, Moore said. Along with a computer
and modum, the lab has a telephone, a lumaphone, which is
a picture phone, a satellite, a ham radio and a packet radio.
"We re not Just presenting one thing, it's many things,
much like the real business world is," Moore said.
The letter continues. "EDS is a firm believer that today's
students must be prepared for the technological demands of
the future. The geoInformatics Lab at Sanger Middle School
gives students the needed real-world, hands-on activities
that provide skills needed for the year 2000 and beyond."

The Centel Calling Card,
which can be ordered for

long distance companies'
networks and will keep long
distance and local charges

monthly telephone bills.
Centel will be mailing
customers an order form for

offers distinct advantages
over other cards," said
