BOY CHABGED WITH
TAKING-BAG OF MONEY
Manuel Gonzales who says he Is
14 years old and that his home is in
Juarez was arrested by the police
Saturday morning charged with being
a suspicious character. It is alleged
that the boy entered the grocery store
of C Lawrence at Fifth and El Paso
streets opened the safe and took from
it a bag of money. The money it is
said was recovered by Lawrence when
he gave pursuit and fired a pistol
shot in- the air to frighten the boy.

John I. Dyer and W. H Burges left
Saturday afternoon for Milwaukee.
Wis. where they will attend the an-
nual meeting of the American Bar
association. Mr. Dyer Is vice president
of the association for Texas.

RAINS EVERY DAY
Valentine Tex Aug. 24. Bains have
continued to fall throughout the Valen-
tine valley each day this week.
Lon Grogan Is In from the Tellous
ranch and states a splendid rain fell
over the Lake pasture.
LIGHTNING SHOCKS TWO
WOMEN IN SAFJFORD ARIZ.
Safford Ariz. Aug. 24. A heavy rain
fell Thursday evening In the valley
and the electrical display was unusual-
ly great. Lightning struck near the Mc-
Laughlin house knocking Mrs. John
Evans down and rendering her uncon-
scious and shocking her slsterinlaw.
Mrs. Williams. Mrs. Evans has re-
covered. The last storm split a large
tree just across the street and broke
part off the roof of the Campbell residence.
GOOD RAINS DURING
THE WEEK AT PECOS
Pecos Tex. Aug. 24. Good rains
have fallen around Pecos during the
week and the alfalfa farmers and cat-
tlemen are jubilant. With more rain to
follow the grass will be good for fall
and winter.

Carrizozo N. M Aug. 24. Some of
the heaviest rains of the season oc-
curred this week and the roads of the
county are In very bad condition.
WILSON SATS HE WILI
MAKE FEW TRIPS AND SPEECHES
Sea Girt. N. J Aug. 24. With the
idea that the country is tired of stump-
ing tours governor Wilson announced
today that his persent plans call for
very few campaign speeches.
Of 200 letters received from persons
not politicians 150 suggested that the
governor conduct a dignified stay-at-home
campaign.
ARCHBOLD SAYS HE IS NOT
A LIAR3 WILL NOT ENDURE IT
New York. N. T.. Aug. 24. "I am not
a liar. I am not accustomed to being
so accused and will not endure it
lightly."
John D. Archbold of the Standard Oil
company made this brief statement be-
fore sailing for Europe today In reply
to Col. Roosevelt.
