A year or so after the loss of our beloved Rabbi Malev, Marcia
Wishnow was contacted by then President of Sisterhood, Maxine
Cohen, about a project to honor Rabbi Malev as well as bring some
color to the Pulaski-Rauch Auditorium. Marcia took the ideas for
the works from a 2nd Grade Sunday School book which had been
used by one of her sons. She adapted the illustrations to needle-
point and 24 were agreed upon. With Bonnie Rashti’s help on six
of the canvases, all 24 were painted on canvas and Sisterhood vol-
unteers, some no longer with us, worked diligently to complete the
needlepont work in time for the dedication date.
After being in storage during the renovation of the Pulaski-
Rauch Auditorium, a permanent place was chosen for display of
the needlepoints and Stephanie Plotkin undertook the task of hav-
ing each piece cleaned and re-framed. During the days between
Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur earlier this month, they were
placed in their new home. Please take time to view them.
ment, I didn’t lose my pet deposit, I didn’t have to agonize over
packing and moving (It all happened so fast there wasn’t time to be
too upset.)). But really, I have been profoundly blessed. I will never
be able to thank everyone who has given me support.
It’s been a very wild roller coaster ride of emotions, but Max
and I are settling into a new aparment. Thanks to my Beth Yeshurun
Family, I have everything I need. God bless you.

Dear Congregants,
During Hurricane Ike, my apartment building lost most of its
roof tiles. All night long I could hear the tiles being pealed away. A
few times, they crashed into my bedroom window where my dog,
Max, and I were attempting to sleep through the storm. Occasion-
ally, I noticed a flashlight shining through my window and realized
my neighbors were keeping an eye on the roof, too. Unfortunately,
after the tiles were stripped away, the rains began coming in. At
some point my front room ceiling collapsed and rainwater began
pouring in by the bucketful. I had been “Iked.” I threw most of my
towels at the problem, but it didn’t help. The following night, my
bedroom ceiling began leaking and Max and I ended up in the car.
Once my dear friend, Marilyn Ozaroff, heard of my plight, she took
us both in. There was no question about it. I was to come and stay
with her. That’s Marilyn.
Once Lu Dorfman heard the news, all he asked was “What
do you need?” This is the same question I got from the Rabbis,
my co-workers and so many congregants who I’ve come to know
at Beth Yeshurun. “What do you need? How can I help?” I can’t
express how this tremendous outpouring of concern and love has
touched me. Every time some problem popped up, someone was
there to help, whether it was with food, a coffeemaker, lamps, a bed,
furniture or finances. Whenever I would express my amazement at
everyone’s willingness to help, I kept being told, “You’re family.”
I’ve jokingly told many of my friends and family about the
blessings Ike has brought to me: I didn’t have to clean my old apart-
