BYB
BETH YESHURUN
BROTHERHOOD
new year
Great news! The ranks
of cancer survivors are
swelling, not only at Beth
Yeshurun, but nationally. In
fact, there are nearly 12 mil-
lion cancer survivors living
in the U.S.
If you are a cancer sur-
vivor (current cancer patients included) or if you have provided
care for a loved one who is a cancer survivor, please join us at our
aptly named Friday Night Alive! service on June 5. Rabbi Rosen
will offer a special blessing for anyone in our congregation who
has survived cancer. Last year, nearly 100 members of our congre-
gation stood to accept this tender blessing. What an inspiration!
Many members in our own congregation have effectively
made it over that “bridge” to cancer survivorship. Beth Yeshurun
has been a CanCare member congregation since 2001. Several of
us have completed CanCare’s volunteer training and are available
to use our cancer experiences to support and partner with others
who have been newly-diagnosed with this disease. If you are a
cancer patient or caregiver, you may already have a great deal of
support. However, having an experienced survivor of your type
of cancer and treatment to talk with would make your journey so
much easier. To strengthen your support resources, you can con-
tact Rabbi Morgen at smorgen@bethyeshurun.org or CanCare at
(713) 461-0028 or visit their website at www.cancare.org.

Once again, Beth Yeshurun Brotherhood
is offering its very successful Rosh
Hashanah Honey Sale. All proceeds from
this sale are directed to youth activities of
our synagogue. For example, we subsidize
fees for campers at Camp Young Judaea and
the JCC and send contributions to Hillel
and the Jewish Childrens’ Regional Service.
This is an excellent opportunity to send an
8 oz. jar of kosher honey to friends, family
and customers. Try ordering honey as a
High Holidays greeting. Each jar includes
a personalized message with the appropriate prayers. The $9 per
---------------------------- jar charge includes shipping and
handling within the U.S. There is
an additional charge for shipments
outside the U.S. Ordering is easy-
just go to www.bethyeshurun.org
and click on the honey link. The
deadline for ordering is July 24.
