The Band Of Power Project was envisioned by Houston artist Anastasia Sams to create an 18” wide ribbon of concrete, encircling and
rising 24” above the foundation of The Community Artists’ Collective. The concrete ribbon, stenciled with one foot high Power Words
and separated by Original Power Symbols was created by students of The Collective and serves as community advertisement of the
empowering nature of the creative arts and the powerful link between feelings, words, identity and self-esteem.
“...impressive, colorful, bright...started reading one block away. Positive adjectives made me want to go around the whole building...”
Dodie (A visitor to the Collective in 1992)
