Wrnon Saturday mght was one of the best ever. Having the
parade at night meant builders could make their imagina-
tmnnmwdd with hghts and figures and Christmas themes.
The general theme selected by the sponsoring Chamber of
Commerce, “An American Christmas." was well depicted
on floats. The North Franklin Fire Department's emotional
portrayal of fire fighters planting the American Bag was mov
mg and well done. All the floats were extremely well done,
and the judges must have had a terrible time deciding on the
first place winners.
Tlr only big city parade I have ever attended was the
Rose Festival Parade in Portland, and that was special
because I watched it with life long friends. But as the
floats and cars passed in the Mount Vfernon parade and
the people I have known all my life shouted out “Merry
' Chrtshnas.” 1 fcmsd mysetf responding, shouting “Merry

good wishes.
