Glenn Ervin recently was
notified that he has earned 52.4

He will be presented with a

Friendships begin this way and
grow strong over the years.
I drive a pickup truck now
and find that my taste in music
has expanded into the country
area, too. When I try to
understand our hectic pace of
life, it is good to remember the
advice of Garth Brooks on his
new CD. “Put your mind in the
middle while your butt goes
round and round." 'Truth can be
found in some strange places, but
the truth is still the truth.
One of the nice cowboys I
know tells a great story about his
dog. “She-hasta.” He says She-
hasta go with him in his truck
everyday. Of course, She-hasta
be fed the best dog food. She-
hasta be taken outside for walks
She-hasta sleep on the foot of his
bed, and She-hasta have a tennis
ball thrown to her for an hour
each afternoon.
He tells this story with a grin
on his face, but the truth is slill
the truth.

When I first moved Io
Sanger, the sight of people of the
cow person persuasion was new
to me. I grew up on the 'Texas
coast, but I rarely saw people in
boots, spurs and hats.
Over lime, I met lots of men
and women who worked and
played with horses. Some of out
cowboys and cowgirls rodeo or
compete in Play Days with their
horses, and we have many riders
who do English-style hunter
jumping. I'heir soft-spoken
drawls are now familiar voices as
they call on the phone politely
asking for appointments.
Many of these clients still
surprise me with their gentle
good manners and the use ol

In keeping with the 1999
Texas Summer Reading Chib
slogan, "Open a Book - On With
the Show,” the Sanger Public
Library has scheduled a special
guest for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
July 6 - Bonkers the Clown.
Bonkers was one of the stars
of KDEI-TWs, “Club -27"
children’s television program
He has been called "wonderfully
inventive" and is said to create
programs which involve
children in any imaginable
subject matter.
Bonkers’ alter ego, John
Rainone, has received numerous
awards as a result of his
willingness to clown around,
including being named "Tqp
Clown in 1990" by the Dallas,
l imes Herald and being nainCa
co-winner of the Bronzed Quill
Award for Outstanding
lulucational Program Script. He
also received a certificate of
achievement from the
International Council of
Scholastic Program Executives.
Vickey Elieson, director of
, the ganger Public Library, said
that she thought Bonkers
program would go well with the
theme of the summer reading’
program.
“1 want the summer reading
club to be fun. and I want the
children to learn new things,,
and 1 think a clown is a good
way to do that." she said.
“Besides, I have seen Bonkers
perform, and 1 think he is very
funny.”
According to Elieson the,
program featuring Bonkers is;
about a third of the way filled/
Pre-registration for the program
is strongly encouraged because,
seating is limited.
Also, the performance is
open to the public, not just those
enrolled in the summer reading
club, Elieson said. To pre-register
or for further information, please
call (940) 458-3257.
