LAUGH AT THE FUNNY CLOWN
That’s what the church is supposed to be.
1
If we really took the Great Commission seriously (see paragraph 1, page 2), we would
be super-salespersons of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. If we were at all passionate
about our own salvation, we would be beating the drum at every opportunity to witness to
others who need salvation, too. And if we did more fervent “clowning” for the Lord,
perhaps we could take away from Satan a whole lot more of his clients!
How could our visitor know? This “clown” is a multimillionaire who has built his
furniture business into an empire, and has given millions to charities and non-profits.
This “clown ” has run dozens of other furniture stores out of business. This “clown ” is a
super-salesman, and is passionate about his merchandise.
We have been called to tell a lost and dying world that God has prepared a major
redemption for us all, and that if we confess with our mouths the Lord Jesus (yell
breathlessly) and believe in our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead (burst with
passion), all of us can dodge condemnation, and shall be saved. God needs some turned-
on clowns who can sell the gospel to sinners.
A visitor to our town is fascinated by a comic figure in TV commercials. A man yells
breathlessly about couches and dining room furniture and mattresses. He jerks and
jumps and seems wildly frenetic as he babbles at top volume about quick delivery and a
huge inventory that has everything you could possibly want in a furniture store. Then he
snatches a dollar bill out of his hip pocket, holds it up like a victor’s trophy and virtually
screams that his furniture store will save you MONEY! The performance has our visitor
in stitches. “Who is this clown? I have never seen a commercial like that!”
(Uncontrollable waves of laughter.)
