MEN ARE BREAKING CAMP TODAY—LADIES NEXT
In HIMM (In His Image Men’s Ministry) has been at Trinity Pines Conference Center in
Trinity, Texas, this weekend. They close their spring retreat with worship in Trinity this
morning, and will return to Houston this afternoon. Next will be the Deaconesses, whose
spring retreat will be next weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5, in Pinehurst,
Texas. See page 4 for details on the Deaconesses’ retreat.
THIS EVENING TWO YOUNG EAGLES FLY
Something about Wheeler inspires young Christians to surrender themselves to the
ministry of Jesus Christ. Two more will deliver initial (or “trial”) sermons this evening.
Edna Morales and Timothy Bryant have said “Yes” to Jesus and will deliver their first
sermons this evening at 6:00. Come and give them your prayer support.
TODAY WE SELF-DEFINE
What is the primary role of the church of Jesus Christ? To meet weekly to allow us an
opportunity to trot out our finest? To gather an audience to be excited by charismatic
Reverend X and the Angelic Knockouts? To be the forum from which votes come, or
marchers for the civil rights protest? You knew better than that from the first word,
didn’t you? The church exists for one purpose only—to witness to the redeeming power
of Jesus Christ. And our audience is not limited to the membership of St. Paul’s-by-the-
Gas-Station. It is an entire world. (Matthew 28:19, 20). Today, as with all fifth
Sundays, is Mission Sunday. Our General Mission regularly reminds us of how we must
be defined. And today we focus on five ministries: Cade Circle (Senior Ministries),
Cancer Ministry, HIV-AIDS Ministry, Substance Abuse Ministry, and the new
Alzheimer’s Ministry. The leadership of the General Mission and of these ministries is
shown on pages 3 & 8. We climax Mission Sunday with a ‘Missions Faire,’ an
exposition that exhibits the twenty-odd ministries of Wheeler. At the close of the 11:00
o’clock worship service, please go to the CLC gym on Ruth Street and browse through
the tables to see what the ministries are and to encourage you to volunteer to work with
one or more. An insert lists the exhibiting ministries you will find in the gym.
WE MOVE TOWARD CALVARY
During this special season (Lent) our focus is on the greatest gift of all—the gift of God’s
Son to die for us. We take the Lord’s supper three times next month: first Sunday; with
Family Groups during Holy Week (April 14-17; see schedules on page 10); and on the
actual day of His crucifixion, Good Friday, April 18. We worship at noon, with Pastor
Terrance Johnson and the Higher Dimension Church. Put all of this on your Lenten
calendar.
