AIR kAIL
Wr. Joseph R. Bertig
Paragould, Arkansas
Dear Joes
I thought you would be interested in seeing the two enclosed
newspaper clippings from the Santa Barbara papers, which have just been
received here. If, after seeing same, you have no further use for them,
I wish you would return them to me, although this is not absolutely
necessary.
We were awfully glad to talk to you on Saturday on our return.
The wedding was indeed a beautiful one though extremely small
and quiet.
We expect Mary Jean and Oakleigh down here around Thanksgiving
for a few days.
I hope everything is moving smoothly with you. I have been
trying to find time to run up to Paragould for a day or two, but with all
that has happened since Mr return from Europe, and a desk fAll of accum-
ulated matters needing attention, I have not been able to do so.
Right now Ike is on his way to Lexington, Virginia where he is
delivering an address on Washington & Lee's BiCentenial Program on
International Trade. Unfortunately, as soon as he returns, he has to
undergo an eye operation; according to the doctors, he has lost almost
all vision in his right eye, and as you know, he has had over the past
ten or fifteen years several attacks of glaucoma.
Yours very truly,
22
Encls.
P.S. Mary Jean's address right now by Air Mail is Mrs. Oakleigh L. Thorn.,
c/o Del Monte Lodge, Pebble Beach, California.v
