Galveston, TexasDear Dan:
I got your letter this morning, together with
your itinerary. Thanks very much, of course.
If I can do anything for you in Washington, I
wi.1 be glad to do it, so tell Ike to get in
touch with me if I can be of any help.
The cotton market certainly kicked up today, and
if I hadn't been sick, I would have been in there.
I made some profit, but I just simply couldn't
afford to let it worry me when I was flat on my
back in St. Louis, as that was one thing that the
doctor told me would keep me from recovering
quickly, and it might be very injurious.
Of course, nobody expected this small acreage
report, but I am just wondering whether it is
correct, although the government doesn't make
many mistakes. Stuart, a crop reporter, who has
been very good at it, came out with twenty-one and
one-half million acreage. But the government ought
to know, as I understand that they have measured
the crops. I know they have up here, anyway. Well,
that is "water under the bridge", but this sickness
of mine is a misfortune, therefore, in more ways than
one.Rest assured that I will do anything I can in reference
to the Washington matter, even to making a trip up
there, if I am at all able.
Love to you and/ Jeane,
JRB:cw Jos. R. rtig
P. S. Since writing, have talked to S art. He says
he'll stake his reputation on acreage at least 21
million, and that the government hasn't measured over
10% of the acreage.,- -,~-
