Police conduct survey
on parking decals
District 3: Vacant
Election is May 10.
The department of public safety on this
campus administered a survey Wednesday
designed to gauge student and faculty opin-
ions of the parking stickers for the 2008-09
year.
One hundred students and employees
were randomly asked to take part in the sur-
vey on each district campus.
The survey was conducted to gain insight
into the students’ perspective on the new
internal parking decals that will be used
for the fall. The results will help determine
the type of decal that will be used, if either
the front or rear window is preferred, the
location on the window and any other
feedback.
“The survey gives students an opportu-
nity to participate and have a voice in events
that happen on campus,” Cpl. Michael
Nemcic said.
The parking survey came about from a
request made to the.department of public
safety from the chancellor’s office, Sgt. Ben
Pena said.
The results of the survey are to be turned
into Deputy Chief Derrick Patten, to be tabu-
lated for .decision-making purposes, Nemcic
said.
The deadline to return the surveys to
Patten is Monday.
The DPS office on this campus finished
administering the survey in three hours
Wednesday morning.
“The students and faculty at SAC were
very responsive,” Nemcic said. “No one
turned us down.”

The e-mail contained 10 facts about stalking
and was provided as a public service from the
department of public safety.
According to the e-mail, one in 12 women and
one in 45 men will be stalked in their lifetimes.
On average 1.4 million people are stalked every
year in the United States.
Estimates state that 76 percent of women who
are killed by an intimate partner were stalked by
that partner before they were murdered.
Victims of stalkers may suffer from anxiety,
insomnia and severe depression as a result of
being stalked, and often find new employment or
a new residence to regain a sense of safety,
The e-mail goes on to explain that everyone
can become the target of a stalker, regardless of
gender or relationship status, and that most stalk-
ers are not strangers to their victims.
Also some common technologies such as cell
phones, computers and basic surveillance equip-

An e-mail was issued by Chief of-Police Don
Adams concerning stalking in response to the
slaying of Dr. Julie Abbott.
Abbott was shot and killed April 5 by a man
police say was obsessed with her.
“The e-mail went out as a precaution against
stalking and to let people know not to handle it
themselves,” Sgt. Ben Pena said.
“It was a general effort from DPS to make
the campus community more aware of the types
of crimes that they may fall victim to; and that
if they are more aware, hopefully it can be pre-
vented,” Cpl. Michael Nemcic said.
In the beginning of the e-mail it states, ”It is
imperative that you not try to handle the matter
yourself, but you contact your local law enforce-
ment agency and the ACC police department for
assistance.”
