Friday is Final
Day of Parades
_ - _
With the dress parade at Fort Brown
this atternoon by the Second Virginia in-
fantry the public ot Brownsville will have
had an op|>ort unity to compare the drill
| work and soldierly bm.i.ng «>t the men
ot two ot the Virginia regiments with two
of those of Iowa. The final infantry pa-
j radii will take place at Fort Brown totnor
row atternoon when the Third Iowa reg-
iment will ‘lose the week - dress pa rude
program.
The parade and dnll hv the First Iowa
regiment on the Fort Brown parade field
tvesterday afternoon attracted the usual
.large crowd of civilian spectator- and was
1 also viewed by hundreds <>s' regular sl
I diers and national guardsmen who gath-
ered along the walks and at the garrison
wall.
From a civilian’s point of view th*- work
J of the three regiments that have so far
j performed exhibition drills i- so nearly
| alike as to make it difficult to distinguish
The ocular effect ot these parades is
pleasing to the civilian to the point «»t cn-
thu iastia admiration It the lowans “put
J it over the Virginians in any point it
would seem to be mostly m rhat of the
more robust physical development of the
men. who in the hue yesterday atternoon
seemed to be well ab vc average heights
As they marched along Kli/abeth street
to the gam.-'-n gate the physical vibra-
tion® of the pavement and houses t Mined
by their synchronized tread emphasized
the stalwart statues of the men Tanned
j complexions of the men resemble more
i those of people long used to r i ;h out-
door life than of youths recently troin the
