Leopardettes to open season

The Temple Junior College
Leopardettes will get their season
under way Wednesday against
Murray State in Oklahoma.
Coach Frances Garmon’s feel-
ings will have their work cut out
for them as Murray State was the
number one team in the nation
last year.
Coach Garmon feels her team
has the material to put points on
the boards but she is unsure
about her defense.
The Leopardettes are a young
team as only four out of the 13
girls are sophomores. Two of the
Handball entries sought;
football, volleyball close
Intramural handball entries are receive individual trophies for
being taken, while action in their performance. They include:
football and volleyball are coming
to a close.
Entries for handball will be
taken until today at the East Gym
in Coach Charles Lodes’ office.
If enough interest is shown,
there will be four divisions
including: A & B singles,
doubles, and faculty-student
doubles.
The handball tournament will
get under way on Monday.
With one game remaining in action. They recently defeated the
football, the Social Science Club Newman Club and Leopardettes
TJC students and fans will get their first look at the Leopardettes
in the TJC Clinic next Saturday. The Leopardettes will be hosting
and participating in the clinic which will be attended by area high
schools.
Activities will be held all day in the East Gym with instruction
classes in the morning and six games of basketball slated for the
afternoon session.
Athletic Director Jim Brown will start the program off with
examples on how to develop the jump shot.
Gene Pemberton, official with the Southwestern Association of
Basketball, will follow Brown, explaining rule changes and
interpretations for the girls.
Ronald Scott, trainer at Temple High School, will discuss
prevention and care of athletic injuries.
Sue Gunter, coach at Stephen F. Austin University, will explain in
different types of defenses.
TJC Coach Frances Garmon will conclude the morning session with
information on how to get into condition.
Then eight high school teams will get into action. Then TJC will
play Stephen F. Austin University to give the visitors a view of
college action.
Teams competing in the games include Rogers, Rockdale,
Duncanville, Shiner, Crawford, Midway, Hays Consolidated, and
Clear Creek.
The Shiner-Hays Consolidated game will feature two TJC exes as
coaches of opposite teams.
Carol Bollinger Lancaster of Hays Consolidated was All-American
in her days at TJC and most valuable player in the nation.
Jane Lahodny of Shiner was an all-conference rover while she was
at TJC.
Admission for the games will be 50 cents for students and $1 for
adults.
Exes return to do battle with Leopards
Saturday the Temple Junior year’s leading scorer with 37 Starting for the Leopards will

A meal for the Exes, the

parents will be served at 5 p.m. in
the cafeteria of the Arnold
Student Union. At this time
parents and Exes will have a
chance to get acquainted with the
coaching staff, members of the
Leopard team, and the newly
elected cheerleaders.
At 7:15 p.m. the introduction of
the Exes and the players will
begin in the East Gym. Then the
game will get under way.
The Leopards hold an edge in
the series with five wins to the
Exes two, but the Exes are
coming off a 97-83 win in last
