The TJC Leopards basketball
squad successfully opened their
season with a 72-69 thriller over
Henderson County Junior Col-
lege, Tuesday night.
Four Leopards, Jay Barnes,
Loddie Naymola, David Buchanan
and Mike Russell, scored in
double figures in the closely
fought battle which saw the lead
Junior College 73-49 behind
Diane Tillman’s 17 points, Sandy
Grammer’s 12 and Pat Gamble’s
12.
Every member of the team has
played and contributed in the two
early season victories, and it
would appear that the Leopar-
dettes are on their way to another
Championship season this year.
The Leopardettes play next on
Nov. 25 against McLennan
MCC of Waco took second
place with 586 and Mary-Hardin
Baylor placed third, shooting a
team total of 588. Sam Houston
State ended in the fourth place
spot with 594 followed by Paris
Junior College’s 602.
Wetherford and Henderson
County took sixth and eighth
respectively with their teams
shooting 608 and 621. TJC was
sandwiched between the two with
its 609 score.

change hands numerous times.
The Leopards, however, have a
short amount of time to savor
their victory, as they are
scheduled to travel to Oddessa to
compete in a tournament the
20th, 21st and 22nd against
Oddessa, Midland and Shriner
Junior College.
The Leopards will return home
to host McLennan Community
College, Nov. 25. Many senior
college coaches believe that
McLennan has some of the best
junior college material in the
nation, Leopard coach Danny
Leopardettes Win
“All three sophomores threw
well, but Barron, and Cunning-
ham threw exceptional games.”
He added “TJC hit well and
played fine defensive baseball.
Ken Swinson led the hitting
attack for the Leopards with four
hits.”
These scrimmages conclude
the fall exhibition. The Leopards
now move into their Fall off
season program which includes a
weight program, conditioning
program, and defensive drills
three times a week.
Coach Lodes’ overall evaluation
of the team was that of fine
pitching performances and de-
fensive consistency. Definite
improvement, however, is needed
on the running and hitting game,
he added.
