TEMPLE BETH ISRAEL
BALL AND CHAIN
The second meeting of the Ball
and Chain was held at the home
of the Harold Gilberts. It was a
great success as our attendance
doubled.
Rabbi Lavine’s lecture-discussion
was based on Jewish historical
events from the Post-Revolution-
ary War period through 1881. Out-
standing Jews of the first half of
the 19th Century were discussed
such as Judah P. Benjamin and
Isaac M. Wise. Also the divisions of
Judaism as we know them today—
Reform, Conservative, and Ortho-
dox—were explained and later dis-
cussed. This seminar brings us up
through the Civil War.
Our third meeting will be held
on March 25th at 8 p.m. at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lapin,
2240 Hermann Drive. The lecture
will cover from the year 1881
through 1945 — immigration from
Russia; outstanding Jews of the
later 19th Century and early 20th
Century and the Jewish participa-
tion in the Spanish-American War,
World War I, and World War IJ.
We extend a warm and friendly
invitation. For reservations, call
JA 3-6679.
