Ethel Young, on February 22. The house was very artistically decorated to
suit the occasion of the (lay. A big United States flag and a picture of George
and Martha Washinlgton were in conspicuous places in the reception hall. The
rooms on 1oth sides of the hall were decorated in streamers of purple and
white, the Senior colors, drawn from the corners of the room to the chandeliers.
After the reception of the hostess, punch was served. All went into one
room and played a few games, while the Victrola was started on the outside
for the entertainment of those who wished to dance. "Winkum" was played
oil the inside anld so much interest was manifested in this game that when
refreshments were served the winlkers could not cease batting their eyes and
the winking went on in reality.
Before going home the Seniors gave fifteen rahs for the Juniors and fifteen
for the hostess, and sang many songs honoring the Juniors. The Juniors
responded by giving yells for the Seniors.
After a hearty handshake all around the guests wended their way home.
The Houston Party
As it was known that the Houston football players would be over until the
next (lay, a party had been arranged at the High School building after the
Thanksgiving (lay game. Most of the guests had arrived at eight o'clock and
the program started. As the guests came in they were given a bag of beans,
andl as they mingled with the others and carried on conversation they were to
forfeit one hbearn for every question they could not answer. After a while,
everything became quite "''eay,"'' including the floors. The Houston captain
then gave an interesting discussion on beans, which was enthusiastically
received by all I>resent. The crowd then amused themselves in various ways
until the "eats" were ready. All filed into the Domestic Science room, where
refreshments were to be served, and sought comfortable places and settled
(lown for the oncoming "''eats." It was then discoveredd that the hot chocolate
had bIlen made with sour inilk. But undaunted by this announcement ever'y-
body had a joyful tinme with the cakes that were served. I)uring the evening
many yells were given by both teams. The Houston boys certainly showed that
they were true splortsmen for after having been beaten in a football game that
afternoon by Port Arthur, they made the statement that it was the cleanest and
!best game that they had played the whole season.
