ton favorites in an election held
last Tuesday, according' to Walter
Long, editor of the Grassburr.
Runners-up in the election were
seniors Tom Harkay -from Cry-
stal City and Linda Lee from Ste-
phenville.

.Jeanne Rexroat from Gordon. Run-
ners-up are Bobbie Hardee from

major, is a member of the Towns-
ters Club, H. E. Club, is treasur-
er of the Eternas and secretary of
the Association of Women Stu-
dents. She was secretary of the
freshman class last year, and was

Tom Harkev, a general agricul-
ture major, is a member of the
Wainwrights and the Honor Guard.
He was freshman " favorite last
year. In high school he was a
member of the honor .society, bas-
ketball co-captain and made all-
district football.
Tom Hailey of Breckenridge is
a wildlife major and is a member
of the FFA. In high school he ran

Jeanne Rexroat, a home econom-
ics major, is a member of the Ag-
gettes, Home Ec Club and is tre-

The last call for choir members
is February 25. Everyone who is
interested in joining is asked in.
"No previous experience is nec-
essary, just the desire to sing and
•an. interest in this organization.
The choir will sing for the Moth-
er — Daughter Tea sponsored by
the Campus Club which is to be
-held in the Girls' Dormitory, Feb-
ruary 22, at.3:00 p.m. High school
girls from surrounding towns will
visit the campus, and be conduct-
ed through the dormitories. The
dance ' band 'will also be on the
program for the afternoon's' en-
tertainment. ,

Ronnie Burk a physical educa-
tion major, is president of the Stu-
dent Council. He won the Pioneer
Conference m high hurdles last'
year and was reporter . of. . the
freshman class. In high school he
was the Student Council vice-pre-
sident his senior year, president of
the National Honor Society in '52-
53, was elected Most - Handsome
Boy for the school year of '49-'50',
and was Senior Class Favorite in
'52-'53. He is a member of .the
Lords and Commoners.

Spring enrollment at Tarleton
State College is the largest since
1051, college officials' announced
Saturday.
A. total of '687 students were en-
rolled as of Feb. 12, the last of-
ficial day of registration, J. E.
Tompkins Jr., registrar, announc-
ed.
This campares to 642 at this
time last year.
Here's the breakdown according
to classes. —- first year students,
431; second year students, 138;
and special students, 118,
There are 524 men and 1G3 wom-
en students. Veterans number 15
compared to 41 at this, time in
■1954.

Ten students with a grade point
ratio of 3.00 have had their'-pic-
ture taken for "Who's Who in
Grade Points" in the GRASS-
BURR, -Walter Long, Grassburr
editor, recently announced.

Sandra Herrell is majoring in
home economics and is a member
of the Eternas. In high school she
was Basketball Sweetheart, editor
of the paper-,.president of the 4-H
Club, secretary, of the FHA-Club,
and received three activities

ketball and tennis.

major and a member of the' Lords

SUMMER BAND
IS SLATED HERE
The Tarleton Summer Band and
Twirling School will be held May
31. Prof. Don Morton, .head of the
fine arts department, announced
today.
The band school will be conduct-
ed by Roger P. Fenn, baud clinician
from the University of Tulsa, and
the twirling school will he conduct-
ed* by Woody Woodard, national
twirling champion. <
There will be a. director's con-
ference in which band materials,
methods, demonstrations, and pro-
blems will be discussed. For stu-
dents, there will be clinic classes
for all instruments, full band
classes, and concert programs.
High school credit will be giveii
for classes and ensembles; Profes-
sor Morton explained.
The total cost. per student is
§25, which includes room and
board. Students who are interest-
ed in enrolling for both band and
twirling may do so for an addition-
al $5.00.
Music, education, and -recrea-
tion will be provided for bandsmen,
directors, and twlrlersj.

Religious Emphasis week which
began yesterday with an assembly
at 9:30 a.m. will continue through
Friday. The temporary change in
schedule will be in force until
then.
Student .council members have
planned the weeks program with
Dr. Erwin F. Bohrnfalk as the-fea-
ture speaker. The remainder of
the "program will be carried out by
various students.
In addition, to the morning as-
semblies, special Vesper services
for all students and faculty mem-
bers are being held alternately at
the Baptist and Methodist Student
Centers each evening. Beginning
at 6:10 each evening, these periods
of fellowship and devotionals will
be limited to 30 minutes in length.
Yesterday's speaker was Mr. J.
W. Autry, director of the division
of agriculture. Dean Paul A. Cun-
yus will 'sppak tonight. Coach H. A.
Sanford will speak Thursday and
Friday's speaker will be Dr. G. E-
Waggener, head of the fine arts,
division. Miss Lola Thompson, dir-
ector of library science, will speak
at the final service Saturday. The
speaker will be a surprise for Wed-
nesday.
The two student groups stated
they would like to urge all stu-
dents and faculty members to at-
tend the Vespers.

ARE HELD TODAY
Drill periods will be held today
and Thursday at 5 p.m. for the
new Wainwright candidates. The

In Houston Show
. As the finale ,in its events this
year, the Tarleton Livestock Judg-
ing team, journeyed to Houston
Thursday to compete in the Hous-
ton Fat- Stock Show and returned
with fourth place in the content.
Competing against 20 teams
from' Texas and Oklahoma, the
team captured a third place banner
in Beef Cattle Judging.
The team was. composed of'Bob-
by Burnett of Hobbs, N, M. Curtis
Eckhart, and Clemens Friedrick,
both of Fredericksburg.
Individual honors' went to Bur-
nett, w.ho won third place, in the
entire contest, and Eckhart took
fifth place in individual honors.
The two Tarleton representatives
received medals for their accom-
plishments. • • .
Feature of the two day trip,'
other than the judging which ..was
held Friday, was a banquet g-iveri
by the Houston manufacturers at
which the awards were presented.
