Both professors complimented
the librarians. "The librarians are
as good as I'Ve ever encountered.
They do a superb job given the
resources they have to work with,"
Bott said.
In 1912, Texas State Teacher's
College opened its first library in
what is now the historical build-
ing. It previously was located on
the first floor of the main build-
ing. The new library housed 8,000
books, 48 magazines and two
newspapers. The building actu-
ally served as a combined library,
gym and heating plant. By 1934
the library housed 50,000volumes.
Willis Library opened in June
of 1971 and now houses just un-
der 2 million books. It has 17 aca-
demic librarians. It's strengths are
in the areas of art, business, edu-
cation and law.
"I wish it had easier access to
periodicals and the weekly
magazines. They are valuable
resources."
