Some of the Galveston people inter-
ested in the building of a causeway
across the bay went to Austin this week
in the interest of the project.
Galveston needs the causeway and
needs it bad and the enterprising busi-
ness men of the city should put their
shoulders to the wheel and assist those
who are working on the scheme.
Galveston must be connected with the
mainland with something more substan-
tial than a single wooden bridge to in-
sure her future prosperity and great-
ness.

The Austin Forum says of the manu-
facturer of the fake breakfast food call-
ed “grape nuts”:
“If the good women of America knew
the story of the blatherskite of Battle
Creek getting rid of his wife of twenty
years and marrying his stenographer,
few of them would serve his products to
their families. A good woman has a
contempt for a man who would do such
a thing unless she is satisfied that the
provocation was something more than
to acquire a young wile to spend sud-
denly acquired riches.”

The meeting of the Dockworkers
Tuesday night was one of the most har-
monious and interesting they have held
for some time. It seemed that the
members were there to attend strictly
to business and had no time for any-
thing else.
Nineteen new candidates were initia-
ted into the mysteries of the organiaa-
tion and received their obligation as
dockworkes, as well as members of the-
International Longshoremen, Marine
and Transportworkers’ Association.
The business agent read quite a list
of names out that will be dropped at
the next meeting unless they pay some
on this quarter’s dues. The members
whose hames were read will have until
the last day of March to pay something
in the present quarter and save them
from being dropped from the rolls.
This is part of the law that must be en-
forced as those who pay their dues reg-
ularly are entitled to benefits and those
who do not pay are not entitled to them.
The association cannot run on any
other platform and the member should
understand it so. Those who are not
in possession of the No. 1 button for
this year, are the ones whose names ap-
peared on the list Tuesday night.
Communication were read about the
election of delegates to the State Feder-
ation of Labor convention, to be held
at Denison, next May. After receipt of
the letter, a motion was made that the
Association go into an election for
delegates. There were four nominations
and two delegates to be elected, Bro. O.
A. Anderson and Walter Holdsworth
were the successful candidates and will
represent Local 385 in the Denison con-
vention.
There was also a vacaney in the exee-

THE STATE OF TEXAS AND COUNTY
OF GALVESTON.
To Henry Napoleon, the unknown
heirs of Henry Napoleon and
to all persons owning or having or
claiming any interest in the following
described land delinquent to the State
of Texas and County of Galveston, for
taxes, to wit;
Situated in the County of Gelveston,
State of Texas, as follows, towit:
The west half of lot No. ten (10) and
the east half of lot No. 11 in the north-
west quarter of out lot No. 207, in the
the city of Galveston, according to the
common map or plat thereof, which
said land is delinquent for taxes for
the following amounts: $3.52 for
state taxes and $5.00
for County taxes, and you are hereby
notified that suit has been brought by
the State for the collection of said taxes,
and you are commanded to appear and de-
fend such suit at the April, A. D. 190 ,
term of the District Court of Galves-
ton County, and State of Texas, and
show cause why judgment shall not be
rendered condemning said land (or lot),
and ordering sale and foreclosure thereof
for said taxes and cost of suit.
Witness J. F. Simons, Clerk of the Dis-
trict Court of Galveston County.
Given under my hand and the seal of
said Court, at office in Galveston, this
the 23d day of February, A. D 19)5.
The noblest men I know on earth,
Are men whose hands are brown with
toil;
Who, backed by no ancestral graves,
Hew down the woods and till the soil,
And win thereby a prouder fame
Than follows king’s or warrior’s
name.
The workingmen, whate’er their task—
To carve the stone or bear the hod—
They wear upon their honest brows
The royal stamp and seal of God !
And brighter are their drops of
sweat
Than diamonds in a coronet.
God bless the noble workingmen,
Who rear the cities of the plain,
Who dig the mines and build the ships,
And drive the commerce of the main.
God bless them for their swarthy
hands
Have wrought the glory of our
lands.
