Notes

Text of item: "Dear Harris - It was sweet of you to acknowledge my early Xmas card so promptly. Somehow I thought it would take a considerably longer time for "printed matter" to reach Eastados Unidos - or I would not have rushed to get these off so early. Since most of my friends don't know, however, where we are this Christmas perhaps it is just a swell, as I am counting on decorating this rented "Villa" with greetings from far off places as all my ornaments and even my winter clothes are still in Hong Kong and won't arrive until mid-January. If you think enclosed is appropriate please pass it on to your parents. Am sure the party you have planned will be a huge success. It seems to me I visited Ceci & Louvie about this time almost 20 years ago or was it at New Year we made the rounds for egg - not and swam in the Gulf? Our egg-nog base, which we keep from year to year, is still in the "Frig" at 300 The Peak, so I've just mixed up a new batch to age a little before the Holidays. Wish you could sample it. Should you, Ruth & the children come to Europe let us know, and if you aren't routed via Lisbon - T. W. A. & Pan Am both fly this way - we might connect somewhere else - say England, Spain, Switzerland or Italy - The only place I won't consider going is Paris - it's too darned expensive. When did you quit the Navy? What are you doing now? How old are Shrub & Sandy? Please fill in the blank spots - I haven't seen you since Washington '43 and lots can happen in nine years. Frank left R. C. A. in '45, when, after having been separated all but one Christmas (The 1st) David Saraoff el al [sic] wanted to send him to India two or three days before Dec 25th. His plane was delayed twice and the third time he simply didn't get aboard. In March of '46 he joined a British Company and set off to make "Rediffusion" (it's like Muzak-wired wireless) a tremendous success in Hong Kong - Kuala Lampur & Peuaug. Last year on a junket around the world we visited friends in Lisbon and decided the idea would be equally successful here. So in June Frank was asked to try to negotiate a license and the Portuguese being as they are, slow to accept new ideas, have still not officially said O. K. "Patiencia" However, when Frank started his self-imposed exile in '31 just before Roosevelt came into power he said he'd return to the States when a new administration too over - so maybe in the not too distant future we'll come home and the children can finish their education as Americans rather than bally Britisbers. Jil will be ready for her Junior or senior year of High School as she is in the highest form here this year and Lye is just one class below her. I've been an expatiate for 16 years myself - but if Frank can join the Far Eastern division of the State Dept., a job he is well suited for - we may still live abroad a good part of the time - with only occasional spells in Washington. Do you ever get to New Orleans? My sister Yoouve is married to Prof. Dan Wogan of Tulane U. Romantics Language Dept. 'all for now - à bientôt, Peg. You know of course that Claraence is now married to her first love Robert Cathau & is living in L. A.
