Eight Earthquake shocks in
Los Angeles on July 16, 1920.

count with the Estate of Emma
Herbort, deceased, together with
an application to be discharged

thereof, in the town of Frede-
were cracked and the front of
a building on Temple Street fell,
hurting people near by. One of
the gables on the Courthouse fell
and the shock caused a slight
crack in the runway between the
Courthouse and the Hall of Re-
cords. Watermains broke be-
tween firt and second on Hill
Street, causing a flood to fill the
gutters. Some excited person
turned in the alarm after the
third shock was felt, but no blaze
could be found by firemen who

that have lived here for number
of years say this was the worst
one they had out in Los Angeles.
July 17. Los Angeles had three
more shocks, but they were very
light. We don’t expect any
more as they are not very plea-
sant.

and this was the signal heard in
the department. Mr. Ed. Chempel
of East Ave, age 56 had his leg
broken when a brick fell on him
at First and Broadway.
Hundreds of ladies and child-
ren were rushed to the hospitals.
A number of stores were closed
for the remaining day. The last
shock was at 11 o’clock Friday
and Walnuts, A round trip to
any of the beaches is 65c and
they are from 18 to 25 miles
from Los Angeles.
Returning to Los Angeles at
7 :30 we met an old lady 65 years
of age, Mrs. Mueller is her name.
She is a very kind old lady, she
asked us to come to see her so
sister and I went Thursday even-
ing when we got off from work,
