•Week-long activities part of nationally recognized tradition
By JILL JONES
Staff Writer
March 6-10 is Greek Week at Tarleton,
a time when all the Greek organizations
around campus get together for compe-
tition and fun camaraderie. This year's
events have focused on leadership.
Monday night started a series of events
for Greek Week, The Battle of the Greeks,
which included the opening ceremony,
continued with Greek Quest in Heritage
Park. Monday night's games showed more
of a fun side and included games such as
different obstacles, wheel barrow races,
picture painting without using hands and
a cucumber toss.
Tuesday began with a.free hot dog din-
ner. All Greeks were encouraged to bring
canned food, and a contest was held for
the most impressive structure built using
( cans. A dodge ball tournament was also
held,
Wednesday night's events were held
in Heritage Park again where events were
aimed at helping to build leadership. Mine
games were played in which Greeks led
someone through a mine field using only
verbal directions.
Thursday will include speaker Bernie
McGrenahan who will deliver a message
on safety and drinking. His message will
be fun and educational, and students are
encouraged to interact and ask questions.
Bobby Waddell, coordinator of the
Greek Organizations is looking forward to
this year's events. ,
"I'm very impressed with their efforts
this year, and I'm expecting a good turn-
out/' Waddell said. "In the. past, they were
good with coming up with a schedule, but
they have come together this year and put
together a schedule ai^d come up with a
book of rules and regulations."
Greek Week is a nationally recognized
event among Greeks. It has been done in
the past at Tarleton, and,was picked back

In a mock trial that took place Wednesday evening, student body president Casey Hogan >vas
found guilty of driving while intoxicated by a jury of students. Shown above is Carey Frasiet,
the prosecutor, "The purpose of this was to impose upon the students that it is not worth it to
risk getting arrested for DWI/' Frasier said. Hogan expressed that it was a "frightening experi-

Campus organizations plan
service spring break activities
By JILL JONES
Staff Writer
Some organizations around campus are taking
a different approach to celebrating the Spring Break
week by making a positive impact on the communi-
ty. Groups such as the church-based Baptist Student
Ministiy (BSM) and leadership fraternity Alpha Phi
Omega are using their time away from school to bet-
ter their surroundings and help out others.
The BSM will travel to South Padre Island where
many students from across the state will be going to
party on the beach. However, this group of students is
participating in a program called Beach Reach where
they will administer an alternative transportation for
those spring breakers whose celebrations leave them
a less than desirable driver. They will also set up min-
istries on the beach to promote safety and other per-'
spectives. Members of the Baptist Student Ministry
will also travel to North Carolina to repair cabins-at
a summer camp and clean hiking trails for kids that
will be attending this upcoming summer.
Alpha Phi Omega, the service fraternity, will go to
Mexico on a service project mission. They will also go
to College Station to visit fellow alumni. Nikki Dunn,
a freshman and member of APO, is looking forward
to Spring Break.
"Our motto is, 'leadership, friendship, service/
and we are going to do a little bit of work to fulfill
our third obligation and a lot of fun to fulfill the other
two," Dunn said. "It is going to be awesome!
