More than sixty days ago li-
censes were issued for the mar-
riage of Mr. C. W. Revill and
Viola Broescher, but astheil-
cense must be used within sixty
days they were returned for re-
newal a few days ago.
What intervened to prevent
them being used in the sixty
days would perhaps contain a ro-
mantic story of love’s young
dream unrealized, with maybe
some anxiety of the wrath of
irate parents of the thirteen
year old bride.
At any rate the young couple
got away from parental restraint
Sunday, and were perhaps qui-
etly married at some country
parson’s home, but this this is
only conjecture, for the father
was trying Monday morning to
locate the couple.
They were in Big Sandy Sun-
day, which we understand is the
home of the groom, but we did
not learn whether they had mar-
ried or not, and neither had the
father of the bride, or bride to
be, when he telephoned Sheriff
Buie here Monday.
The bride is said to be only
thirteen years of age, and the
groom quite a young man.

I The Christian dent aeeting held
two services at tbs tent east aideof
point in the scholarly lecture of
Dr. Eby to the teachers present,
and to undertake to give even a
brief synopsis of this lecture,
would be to cull a flower here
and there, from a bouquet of
language teaching efficiency in
school work.
The successful man is the one
that surpasses all others in his
line of endsavor, and Qur heroes are
the successful men. He showed
that success was the only patent of
nobility recognized in this country.
Those that make good it is an
American discovery. Such efficien-
cy was illustrated with many potent
illustrations, which showed that the
world, that the world in every walk
of life only wants people that can
“do the job.” No one stands for
inefficiency. He showed the great
loss of inefficiency in teaching. and
the great saving in efficiency.
He showed the inefficiency of
educational inatifutione, in not turn-
ilg out men and women prepared

to grapple with the material prpb-
terns of life, without learning them
to think, and illustrated this.with
the story of an example being given
in a New York school that if a cow
weighed 900 pounds on three feet
what would she weigh on four feet,
and the class followed the usual
formula, of three fourths weighing
900 pounds, what would four
fourths weigh, and arrived at the
answer of 1200 pounds, instead of
taking into consideration all the
factors, or in other words thinking.
There was too much tendency to
dead formula, too much lack of
thought.
He said that there was too much
aimlessness, lack of grasp, among
teachers, and asked what are you
going to do specifically for the
children you are going to teach—
just teach—have you thought of
something specifically that you are
going to give them next’term?
He proceeded then to show what
vere some of the deficiencies of
teachers, that some lacked power,

beet here on the

good sermon for the new members
of his flock as well as for the old
ones.
Rev. II. M. Timmons, the be-
loved and popular pastor of the
Methodist church preached from
the subject, “The Problem of Pain,”
and showed how we might profit by
pain if we understood it in the light
of eternal truth. It was an able
and edifying sermon, and there was
a good congregation there to enjoy
it.
Dr. Frederick Eby, of the Uni-
versity of Texas, who is here to
help conduct the Teacher’s Insti-
tute. came in Sunday, and while he
had a date to lecture at the Metho-
dist church Monday night, and at
the Baptist church WWednesday
night, Rev. H M. Timmons pre-
vailed on him to fill the pulpit at
the Methodist church Sunday night,
and the Baptist congregation dis-
pens« d with their services and went
over v listen to the very scholarly
but lucid talk on "God’s Program,"
which he read from the 9th, 11th
and 2nd chapter of Isiah.
It was a splendid discourse, able,
edifying, clear and lucid, and was
listened to with marked atteution
by the large audience present and
heartily enjoyed.
