Famers of Upshur County
have shown an increasing in-
terest in the topworking of na-
tive pecan trees to standard va-
rieties. Many of them will be
interested in the announcement
by Dean E. J. Kyle that the sec-
ond annual Pecan Short Course
will be held at the Agricultural
and Mechanical College of Tex-
as, March 29-80-31, 1932. Three
days of intensive study will be
devoted to such problems as
Alhqugh there was an oil well on the land of the Travis-Wair negro
school of the Gadewater (Texas) county line independent school dis-
trict, officlals never received any royalty. Oil was run, a small amount,
but the company claimed it was just enough to take care of expenss.
Last week troops placed in the East Texas oil field by Governor Ster-
ling found an illegal connection, or underground "by-pass’’ by which
oil was being secretly pined away. Later two, more were found, one
leading directly to a gathering line of a major nil company. Above
shows tfops uncovering the by-pass while negro pupila look on. Below

at the home of her daughter,
