Ban Francisco, Aug. 12.—Betting on
the heavyweight championship battle
continues to be light, contrary to ex-
pectations. Jeffries remains, a 2 to 1
favorite. A report from Los Angeles,
the home of Jeffries, states that the
champion is a 2 to 1 choice there.
Jeffries, accompanied by his brother
Jack, Billy Delaney and Joe Kennedy,
are now quartered at the rooms of the
Reliance club in Oakland, where they
will remain until Friday evening. Last
night Jeffries was in the gymnasium
until 10 o’clock. His work consisted
of boxing ten rounds with his brother
and Joe Kennedy, skipping the rope
’ 1200 times and finishing with a clog
dance. Then he had a rub down and
retired, sleeping nine solid hours.
When he awoke he felt so well that he
went on the road. Tomorrow he will
have a warm-up and Friday he will
rest the entire day.
All the hard work is over at the Cor-
bett camp. The ex-champion punched
the light bag for a few rounds this
morning and then aparred with Sam
Kerserand Yank Kenny. His exercise
this afternoon consisted of walking and
will reducue the actual runninng time
to two hours and twenty-four minutes,
and necessitate an average running
speed of forty-six miles an hour.
The cylinders are twenty-two inches

steam pressure is 220 pounds to the

on twelve wheels, a forward truck, six
connected driving wheels and a trailer
beneath the firebox. The total weight
on the driving wheels is 141,700
pounds. On the front truck the weight
8.36,300 pounds, and on the trailing
wheels 41,600 pounds, the total weight
of the engine being 219,600 pounds, and
the total weight of the engine and ten-
