for the Jury in to decide that Dr. J. M.
Woods of South Austin was not guilty
of the charge of assault to murder
Fenry Overton. The trial began In the
district court before Judge Penn Mon:
day morning, and it was not until
after 6 o'clock last evening that the
case was given to the jury. The at-
torneys for the defendant made
lengthy arguments, each consuming
over two hours.

LOCKHART HAPPENINGS.

Lockhart, Nov. 11.—The entire vote
is now in and is as follows: For the
amendment, 1852; against, 315; for
governor, Lanham, 1814; Carroll, 200;
Furman, 2; Royal, none; Mallett, 8,
and Burkitt, 283.
In the case of Victor French vs. The
Southern Pacific Railway, in which
suit was brought for 310,000 damages,
the jury failed to agree.
Rev. Jarrell of Dallas is preaching
some interesting sermons at the First
Baptist church this week
K. B. Coopwood, chief of the Lock-
hart fire department, has let a con-
tract to a San Marcos man to build
two hose carts for the hose companies.
They will cost about 3700. When
