WASHINGTON — President
Eisenhower has received these
/views on unemployment compen-
sation from eight governors: The
states want no federal standard
but they could use federal money
in an emergency. * ,
The governors, representing the
executive committee of the Gov-
emors Conference. issued a state-
ment summarizing their views
after meeting with the President
Monday.
In essence, their statement
agreed with Eisenhower’s feel-
ings. He, too, said the states
shbuld continue to set their own
separate standards on unemploy-
ment compensation.

LOS ANGELES UH-Are you a
I showoff driver ? Maybe you're
showing more than you realize-
about what makes you tick.
If you’re always taking corners
on two wheels or burning rubber in
sensational getaways, look out.
Folks in the know believe they
can spot, you for what you are, an
immature, antisocial, sexually in-
ferior, angry bully.
And maybe abuddtg criminal.
A-Los Angeles psychiatrist says
- yeu may not be al of those things.
There’s a good chance, though,
that you’re some of them. Deep
down, you probably know it your-

Reckless drivers often use their
cars as an outlet for angry, ag-
gressive feelings, says Dr. Jereme
M. Kummer Kummer is with the
UCLA Medical Center. He spoke
at a safety meeting Monday.
Are you a hotrod type* Then'
Kummer says, it may be you're
trying to cover up feeding ‘of sex-
ual inadequacy.
This applies both with teen-age
boys and -their fathers gunning
what Kummer calls "hotrods of a
more sophisticated type” — sports
cars.
NEW YORK U — “The more
people say a thing can’t be done,"
said William MeLain, “the great-
er the opportunity for the right
man to doit."
His willingness to try the im-
possible has enabled McLain,
president of a Nashville toy firm.
Kusan Inc., to parlay $300 into a
nive million dollar a year busi-
ness.
All his life McLain, 43, a slend-
er chemical engineer, had wanted
a business if his own. In 1945
Bill decided to gamble with $300
m.vsteriag out pay he received
when he left the Navy.

Any driver who picks up lots of
traffic tickets or bashes fenders,1
Kummer feels, should get a psy-
chiatric examination with his fine.
The roads would be a lot safer
for the rest of us, he says if those
with emotional defects were bar-
red from driving. '
Not only that, he adds, but some
potential criminals would be spot-
ted early. ,
None of this refers to you, of
course. But next, time your neigh-
bor tears away with roaring motor
and screeching tires, nod wisely to.
